Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute Recognizing that cancer patients’ needs are very specific, Drs.
(281)

Gibbs Cancer Center has its roots deep in the Upstate, from the time it was just a dream of two doctors to the world-class treatment and research center it has become today. Jay Bearden and Julian Josey began by convincing administrators at Spartanburg Regional Hospital to allow them to consolidate all existing cancer treatment and support services into a dedicated, single-floor unit, a coordinate

d-services approach that was virtually unheard of at the time. Local business leaders and philanthropists Jimmy and Marsha Gibbs brought the dream a step closer with a generous $1.2 million lead gift toward establishing a standalone center dedicated exclusively to the treatment of cancer. Gibbs has several locations across the upstate of South Carolina, including Comprehensive Cancer Centers at both Spartanburg Medical Center and Pelham Medical Center. Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute serves to provide leading edge research and treatment in a facility equipped with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment tools.

We're excited to see Gibbs Cancer Center being highlighted at , showcasing the impact of community-based research through the NCI.

Dr. Amy Curtis contributed to a nationwide NCI study examining how epigenetic changes may influence inflammation during breast cancer chemotherapy. Findings suggest that biomarkers identified before treatment may help predict which patients are at higher risk for persistent inflammation, advancing more personalized, proactive care.

This work highlights how the power of NCORP in bringing cutting-edge research to community oncology settings. Congratulations to Dr. Curtis, Upstate Carolina NCORP and all collaborators on this important contribution.
