You may have seen us use the term **HCBS** recently.
HCBS stands for **Home and Community-Based Services**.
These services help many people with disabilities receive support in their own homes and communities instead of being placed in institutions or more restrictive settings.
HCBS can include things like:
• respite care
• personal care
• employment supports
• residential supports
• assistive technology
• help building daily living skills
• community participation supports
For many South Carolina families, HCBS is not just a program name. It can be the difference between isolation and community, burnout and support, limited options and real opportunities.
That is why protecting HCBS funding matters.
When we advocate for strong Medicaid and Home and Community-Based Services, we are advocating for people with disabilities to live, work, learn, and belong in their communities.
