It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of EMERGE co-founder, the Reverend Dr. James N. “Jim” Rentz, Sr.

Dr. Rentz devoted his life to faith, service, education, and the care of others. His vision and dedication helped lay the foundation for EMERGE and strengthened the field of marriage and family therapy throughout our community and far beyond. Through the programs he created, the clinicians he trained, and the lives he touched, his influence will continue for generations.

We are deeply grateful for Dr. Rentz’s leadership, compassion, and unwavering belief in making meaningful care accessible to those who need it. His legacy remains woven into the heart of EMERGE and our mission.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Martha, his children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Dr. Rentz. Your life of service made an immeasurable difference, and your legacy will continue to guide and inspire us.

🚨🚨Update: As of 1:40 pm the evacuation has been lifted and according to Emergency officials there is no residual Gas in the air!

We will be open for regular business hours tomorrow, but our front office will remain closed the rest of today.

UPDATE: The gas has been shut off and no residual gas is in the air. Residents and businesses may return. One lane of Floyd Rd will remain closed; use caution near crews. Piedmont Natural Gas (PNG) customers will receive additional instructions directly from PNG.

Attention Community,

Due to a reported gas leak in the area, we have been instructed to evacuate the clinic immediately as a safety precaution. Please do not return to the building until we receive official clearance from emergency personnel.

All staff and clients should leave the premises calmly and safely. We will provide updates regarding reopening, scheduling changes, and next steps as soon as more information becomes available. If you have any questions please contact your therapist.

Natural gas leak: If you are within the 1/2-mile radius shown on the map, please calmly evacuate now.

Avoid flames, sparks, smoking, or anything that could ignite gas near the leak. Use a safe route, keep roads clear for responders, and call 911 if you smell gas or need emergency assistance.

Open to all Alumni of Emerge FTC:

As therapists operating in a world in flux, it can get overwhelming and uncertain as we navigate challenges today. Emerge sees the need for peer support, an open and non judgemental space for therapists to come together to support each other.

This is not supervision, but a place to be the humans behind the good work that we do.
Meetings will be held twice a month, and participation can be in person or virtual. We are open to feedback about what timing and day would suit the therapist community the best.
