When you're raising kids alone, preplanning your funeral might be worth moving up on the to-do list. Chances are you've already thought about the music you'd want, who you'd want speaking, and whether the gathering feels formal or more like a backyard send-off, so moving it up — or onto — the list might not be as difficult as you think. Writing your wishes down gives your kids direction so they're not piecing it together while they're grieving. We'll help you capture everything, including a budget and how you want expenses handled. We've sat with a lot of parents in your shoes, and we'd be honored to sit with you. Call us at 864-582-5451.

Mary Kate Elliott Fogg, 89, entered Heavens Gates on Wednesday, August 26,2026, and joined her late husband of 70 years and the love of her life, Robert Cecil Fogg.

Mary Kate was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where her and Cecil were blessed with a daughter: Vicki F Sherbert (Jamey); a son: Jerry L Fogg (Roberta Lynne); three grandchildren: Katie McDade (Robbie), Kellie A Sherbert, and the late Brittany Lynne Fogg; her sister, Louise Elliott Culbreth (Paul Dean) who also are left to cherish the fond memories of Mary Kate.

In addition to her late husband, Mary Kate was preceded in death by her parents: Leroy and Katie Bishop Elliott; a granddaughter: Brittany Lynne Fogg; and three siblings: Bill Elliott, Ann Dorman, and Virginia Brown.

Mary Kate was a fun-loving lady that loved a good laugh. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Spartanburg and previously taught Sunday School at New Pisgah Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and Savior first and foremost. Then, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Her grandchildren brought her great joy, and she was so proud of each one of them. Her love for children led her to start Love and Care Day Care, a business that gave her joy. She enjoyed fishing with her husband in their spare time. One of her many talents was cooking and she will always be remembered for the wonderful family meals. She was known to take a bite or two of chocolate to satisfy her sweet tooth. Mary Kate has impacted so many lives over the years, and she will be greatly missed by all who have had the pleasure of meeting her.

The family will receive friends between 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM on Monday, August 31st, 2026, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 797 Old Georgia RD, Moore, SC 29369. The funeral service to honor Mary Kate’s life will start at 1:00 PM following the visitation. The Rev. Joe Burnett will be officiating the service. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband Cecil following the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 31st, 2026, at 2:00 P.M.

As Mary Kate would always say, “Things always have a way of working them self’s out because God is in control.” Her strong faith led her for 89 years on this earth and now it leads her to her Heavenly Home forever.

The arrangements are trusted to the care of Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel.

Have you considered whether burial or cremation feels right for you?

Some people know immediately which choice fits them better. Maybe you picture yourself laid to rest in the family plot near your parents, or maybe you prefer the idea of your cremated remains lawfully scattered somewhere you loved. Both options give your family a way to honor you, and both come with their own considerations.

Telling your family which direction you lean takes one big question off their shoulders when they're already overwhelmed. If you're somewhere in the middle or honestly don't have a preference, that's worth saying too. Your family will feel better making the choice if they know they're following your lead. And rest assured that we’ll be there to guide them.

Families sometimes ask, “Why have a funeral if everyone already knows someone died?”

The first phone calls, messages, and obituary can deliver the news, but it often takes more than hearing the words for the loss to settle in. A service or gathering can help family and friends begin to take in what happened by giving the loss a shared moment instead of leaving everyone to process the news on their own.

If your family is wondering whether a service would help, call 864-582-5451. We can talk through what feels right for your loved one and the people who cared about them.
