Black Hills Psychology

Black Hills Psychology Counseling, Testing, and Psychiatric Services We believe that true emotional, physical, and mental wellness requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach.

As a team of experienced and licensed psychologists, therapists and psychiatrists, we offer a wide range of specialties and approaches to care for individuals of all ages. We have purposefully created a team of multidisciplinary professionals to provide psychological and psyciatric services under the same roof. By drawing upon the strength of our team of individuals who are conveniently able to co

nsult regarding your treatment, we can ensure that you get the best care available by building a personalized treatment plan to meet your needs. Grounded in the value of compassionate care, our focus is on creating a collaborative working relationship that offers fresh perspectives on how to most skillfully navigate whatever challenge may be in front of you. At Black Hills Psychology, we do not believe in the "one size fits all" approach to therapy. The type of therapy you receive should be based on your specific needs, presenting issue, and unique history. We also believe that "who" you talk to is important. Research has shown that rapport with your therapist is critical to creating the change you seek. To best meet your needs, we have created a diverse and experienced team of psychologists and therapists who specialize in a variety of therapy approaches. We feel confident you will find your match here. Reflecting and being open in the midst of our challenges is a signal of our strength, not a sign of weakness or failure. Talking with an experienced professional offers a chance to gain new information and insights that add to our ability to cope more effectively and establish new patterns of thinking, feeling, and decision-making.

🌿 Mental Health Monday | A Fresh Start 🌿

Today is the last day of the month—a gentle reminder that you don’t have to carry everything from this month into the next.

Maybe this month was beautiful. Maybe it was hard. Maybe it was a little bit of both. Whatever it looked like, you made it through. And that’s worth acknowledging. 💚

Tomorrow brings a new month—and with it, a fresh opportunity to pause, reset, and give yourself permission to begin again.

✨ Leave behind what you can’t change.
✨ Give yourself grace for what didn’t go as planned.
✨ Make space for what brings you peace.
✨ Set intentions that support your well-being, not just your productivity.
✨ Remember that starting over is not failure—it’s growth.

As you step into a new month, ask yourself:
“What do I need more of, and what do I need less of?”

You don’t have to have it all figured out tomorrow. Just take the next step.

New month. Fresh start. Same you—still worthy of care, compassion, and grace. 🌱💚

🤍 Mental Health Monday 🤍

Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also be hard. Postpartum mental health can feel complicated. It can be exhausting, overwhelming, emotional – and sometimes lonely. You can love your baby deeply and still miss the person you were before motherhood. You can be grateful and exhausted. You can have good days and still need support. There is no shame in saying, “I need a little help.” You don’t have to go through it alone.

Our Postpartum Mom Group is a small, safe and supportive space to connect with other moms, share honestly, feel heard, and encourage one another through the ups and downs of motherhood.

✨ You deserve to feel supported.
✨ Give yourself permission to ask for support.
✨ Make time for YOU.
✨ Connect. Support. Uplift. ✨

You don’t have to have the right words or have it all “together.” Come as you are, share what’s on your heart, and leave feeling a little lighter.

As a new school year starts, homework shouldn't feel like a nightly battleground. 🎒📚✨

If your child is struggling to stay focused, falling behind in reading or math, or constantly frustrated with schoolwork, there may be more to the story. 🧩 Overcoming academic hurdles starts with understanding the why.

Comprehensive psychological testing helps identify:
🧠 Learning differences & processing styles
✏️ Attention challenges (like ADHD)
📊 Executive functioning & organizational needs

A clear evaluation gives you, your child, and their teachers a concrete roadmap for accommodations, IEP/504 planning, and real success this school year. 🗺️🎓

Help your child start this school year feeling supported, confident, and understood. ❤️

Happy Monday!

Taking care of your mental health doesn't always require a major life change. Sometimes, it's the small, consistent habits that make the biggest difference.

This week, try one simple act of self-care:
💙 Step outside for 10 minutes.
💙 Take a few slow, deep breaths.
💙 Reach out to someone you trust.
💙 Give yourself permission to rest without guilt.

Remember, progress isn't about being perfect—it's about showing yourself the same kindness and compassion you would offer someone you love.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply need someone to talk to, you don't have to face it alone. Seeking support is a sign of strength, and healing is possible.

✨ What's one small thing you'll do for your mental health this week? Share in the comments—we'd love to hear from you.

📅 Happy World Emoji Day! 🎉🥳

Think about it: how many times a day do you type a message and realize it just doesn’t feel right without a 💖, a 😂, or a 🫣 to capture your exact vibe?

Emojis have practically become our second language! Whether you’re sending a quick 🫶 to show you care, a 😭 because you're laughing too hard, or the classic ☕️ when you're just trying to wake up, these little icons do a lot of heavy lifting for our emotions.

In a world where text can sometimes feel a bit flat, emojis help us:

Share joy instantly 🌟💃

Soften hard truths or show empathy 🥺❤️

Express complex feelings when words just fail us 🤯🫠

At Black Hills Psychology, we love exploring all the unique ways people connect, communicate, and process their feelings. While a 🧠 or a 💬 emoji is a great start to expressing what's on your mind, remember that it's always okay to use full sentences and talk it out, too!

👇 Let’s play a game in the comments: Drop the last 3 emojis you used to tell us exactly how your day is going!

✨ Thoughtful Thursday: Moving Beyond "Just Stay Positive" ✨

Have you ever been going through a rough patch, only to be told, "Just look on the bright side!" ☀️ or "Good vibes only!"? 🌈😮‍💨

While it comes from a good place, forcing a happy face over real, difficult emotions can sometimes make us feel worse. It’s called toxic positivity 🎭, and it leaves very little room for the messy, beautifully human parts of our lives.

True mental wellness isn't about ignoring the bad; it’s about realistic optimism 🪵💪. It’s the ability to say:

"This situation is incredibly hard right now..." 🌧️

AND

"...but I have the strength to get through it, and I can still find small moments of joy today." 🌿🌼

You don't have to force a smile to be resilient 🤍. You just have to give yourself permission to feel whatever you are feeling, while holding onto a little bit of hope for tomorrow 🌱✨.

If you're finding it tough to balance the heavy stuff lately, you don't have to navigate it alone 🤝. The team at Black Hills Psychology is always here to provide a safe, judgement-free space for all of your emotions—not just the happy ones 🧠🗣️.

☀️ Wellness Wednesday: Staying Cool When the Heat is On! 🥵

🔥Wow, Black Hills family, this heatwave is no joke! With temperatures hitting the triple digits across our region, taking care of your physical and mental well-being is more important than ever. Extreme heat doesn't just drain your physical energy—it can also spike stress levels, disrupt your sleep, and leave you feeling completely exhausted 😴.

Here are a few quick tips to protect your peace (and your temperature) today:

💧 Hydrate early and often: Don't wait until you're thirsty! Keep that water bottle close.

🌳 Seek the shade or A/C: Limit your strenuous outdoor activities during the peak afternoon heat.

🧠 Give yourself grace: If you’re feeling extra irritable or sluggish today, remember that your body is working overtime just to keep you cool. It’s okay to slow down.

Remember, taking care of your mental health is a huge part of overall wellness. If the summer heat or life's daily stressors are feeling like a bit too much to carry, the team at Black Hills Psychology is always here to support you 🤍.

Stay safe, look out for your neighbors, and keep cool out there! 🧊

👇 What's your favorite way to beat the heat today? Let us know in the comments!
