I stopped running well about 8 years ago and encountered injury after injury.
I then moved to such high, dry elevation I had a hard time ever acclimating to it. And chronic tendinitis kept me from progressing.
I hunkered down this past year and found out lots of things once giving my body the attention it deserved.
1. My R lateral hip to foot were not working together or efficiently. Thanks
2. My overstride was even more of an overstride than I realized.
3. I put way too much weight into my R limb since having surgery on the L hip.
Some of these findings were through learning more from Chi Running and changing up my gait which for a 44yr old runner is a major task.
But I want to run til I’m 💀so it’s worth the effort.
I signed up last minute for a 5k this week. Ran it yesterday. I believe the last 5k I ran was in Laguna Niguel, California in 2017.
Aka, it’s been a while.
Reminder: I’m 44.
It’s been years since running consistently, and without pain.
Reminder: I’m 44.
I’m running better now, than at 38.
Reminder: age does not define how well we can move.
I wasn’t sure if I’d have pain today.
I wasn’t sure if my chronic L hip issues would slow everything down.
I thought for sure I’d be no faster than 28min.
Yet here we are. Like no time has passed.
Yes it took a lot of work, and that work is only just beginning as far as running again.
But what a fun, hopeful experience to prove to myself, age is what you make of it, injuries can be overcome, and we are meant to MOVE.
Or run. If you so choose.
