Yesterday, after Mathias’s wrist surgery, we were reminded of something worth sharing:

💊 Over-the-counter doesn’t mean risk-free.

One of his post-op instructions is to avoid NSAIDS aka ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve) while his scaphoid heals. These medications reduce inflammation—which is great in many situations—but inflammation also plays an important role in bone healing 🦴....Because of concern NSAIDS may interfere with that process, some orthopedic surgeons recommend avoiding them after a fracture or fracture repair.

It’s a good reminder that even the medications we buy off the shelf have real effects on the body.

Sometimes inflammation isn’t the enemy. Sometimes it’s part of the healing. ❤️

Pro tip: If you have to drive past an entire empty parking lot to park in front of a medical clinic's wheelchair-accessible entrance... you probably picked the wrong parking spot. 😉

We truly appreciate our neighbors at the Community Theatre. They've done a wonderful job over the years reminding cast and crew to leave the clinic parking available for our patients, and we appreciate that partnership.

This evening was a good reminder that if the waiting room light is on, we're still here—either caring for a patient or waiting for one to arrive. Healthcare doesn't always end exactly at 5:00.
