The AADA continues to fight the proposed 2027 Medicare payment cuts. Member action has been unprecedented and now we need you to take action again.

In-depth analysis of the rule reveals one clear finding: the cuts pose a significant threat to our patients, especially skin cancer patients.

To highlight this threat, we are introducing Save Skin Cancer Care, a national campaign of dermatologists, patients, and communities who believe the fight against America's most common cancer deserves full funding.

We are putting the full force of the AADA behind mobilizing the larger dermatology community around the Save Skin Cancer Care campaign.

We need you, our members, to sign the community statement on the website to show how these proposed cuts will directly affect skin cancer detection and treatment.

Meet the dermatoscope: one of the tools our dermatology providers use to get a magnified, illuminated look at the skin.

It can help us more closely evaluate moles, spots, lesions and other skin concerns by revealing details that may not be as easy to see with the naked eye. It reveals fine details for early intervention!

Does heat make your face flare up?

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Carri!
Carri has been a PRN team member at Lakes Dermatology for the past five years. She enjoys being part of the clinic because it gives her the opportunity to step away from her self-employed work and connect with patients in a personal, face-to-face way.
Outside the office, Carri and her husband are embracing a new chapter as empty nesters after raising their three young adult children. She loves traveling whenever she gets the chance and if there’s water involved, even better! 🌊
🤿 Fun fact: Carri has been scuba diving certified for over 12 years and loves exploring underwater whenever she has the opportunity.
One of Carri’s favorite parts of working at Lakes Dermatology is the amazing team and the friendships they’ve built, especially celebrating together at holiday parties and team events.

Love getting your nails done? 💅🏼 You’re not alone! But have you ever wondered if the UV lamps used to cure gel polish are safe?
The good news: The risk of skin cancer from occasional gel manicures appears to be very low. However, those UV lamps do emit ultraviolet (UVA) light, which contributes to skin aging and can increase skin cancer risk over time with repeated exposure.
Here are a few simple ways to protect your hands:
☀️ Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ to your hands about 20 minutes before your appointment.
🧤 Consider UV-protective manicure gloves with the fingertips removed.
💅 Ask your nail salon if they offer LED lamps, which generally require less exposure time.

Between locker rooms, sweaty shoes, shared equipment, and close contact during sports, fungal infections like ringworm and athlete’s foot become much more common this time of year.
🟢 Ringworm
• Usually appears as a circular, itchy rash
• Can spread on the body, scalp, or face
• Spreads through people, pets, locker rooms, and shared equipment
👟 Athlete’s Foot
• Causes itchy, peeling, burning skin between the toes or on the soles of the feet
• Thrives in warm, damp environments like sweaty shoes and pool decks
• Can spread to toenails or other areas if left untreated
The good news? Both are very treatable when caught early. If your rash isn’t improving or you’re unsure what you’re dealing with, we’re here to help!
