Eight years ago I was promised a rewarding lifelong career. Today, rehab specialists (OT/PT/Speech) are fighting to have a seat at the table.

In Nov 2025, numerous professions were deemed “not professional degrees” which limits the amount of loans students can take out to pursue these fields. Includes nursing, physicians assistants, OT/PT/Speech (the mighty trio), among others.

Limiting loans will decrease applicants. Less workforce in these areas will… stretch the already stretched healthcare system in the U.S.

It’s Feb 2026 and my WHOLE PROFESSION IS IN JEOPARDY OF NOT BEING COVERED BY 1/4 OF THE ADULT POPULATION?

Let me break this down for you. When do adults see an OT?

Workers comp injuries.
Post-op hip, knee, shoulder, and wrist rehab
Spinal cord injury
Stroke rehab
Cardiac events
Motor vehicle accidents
Adult care facilities (skilled nursing facilities)
Amputee recovery (it’s not like the movies, hate to tell you there’s a lot more involved than just getting up on crutches)
COVID/pneumonia/respiratory hospital stays
