👔 Happy Father’s Day 💙

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who invest their time, wisdom, strength, and love into the lives of those around them.

A father’s influence extends far beyond what he says. It is found in the example he sets every day.

Children notice how we handle adversity, how we treat others, how we steward our responsibilities, and how we care for our own health. They learn resilience by watching us persevere. They learn discipline by watching us stay committed. They learn the value of wellness by seeing us prioritize sleep, movement, nourishment, and self-care.

One of the greatest gifts a father can give his family is not perfection, but the example of a life lived intentionally.

Take the hike. Cook the healthy meal. Go to bed on time. Schedule the checkup. Lift the weights. Spend time outdoors. Show your family that health is not merely the absence of disease—it’s the capacity to fully engage in the people and purposes that matter most.

To all the fathers who are leading, serving, protecting, teaching, and growing alongside their families: thank you.

May you be blessed with strength for the journey, wisdom for the road ahead, and many healthy years with those you love.

Happy Father’s Day.

Oh, wow… This past week has been rough for our household and many others throughout the region who have been dealing with the “stomach flu.” Thankfully, it usually leaves just as quickly as it arrives 😅 I hope and pray that you are all recovering well, also.

🦠➡️🌿 Recovering from Viral Gastroenteritis: The Importance of Rest, Hydration, and Nourishment

After the acute phase of a stomach virus has passed, many people are eager to jump right back into normal life. However, the recovery phase is often where intentional self-care can make the biggest difference.

As a naturopathic doctor, I encourage patients to focus on three fundamentals:

💧 Hydration
Even after vomiting and diarrhea have resolved, the body may still be recovering from fluid and electrolyte losses. Water, mineral-rich fluids, and electrolyte support can help restore balance and support energy production.

😴 Rest
The immune system requires significant energy to clear infection and repair tissues. Lingering fatigue is common after viral gastroenteritis, and pushing too hard too soon can prolong recovery. Prioritizing sleep and reducing unnecessary physical stress can help facilitate healing.

🥣 Nourishment with Regenerative Bone Broth
One of my favorite foods during the later stages of recovery is high-quality regenerative bone broth. Bone broth provides easily digestible hydration along with amino acids such as glycine, proline, and glutamine that support gut lining integrity and tissue repair. It also serves as a gentle bridge between a bland diet and the return to normal eating.

When the digestive system has been inflamed, simple nutrient-dense foods often outperform complex meals. Taking a gradual approach to reintroducing solid foods allows the gastrointestinal tract to regain function without unnecessary irritation.

Healing is not just about eliminating symptoms—it’s about creating the conditions for the body to fully recover.

Take the extra day. Drink the extra glass of water. Enjoy the extra cup of bone broth. Your body will thank you.

You Deserve To Be Believed | And You Deserve Real Answers

If you've spent years being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told your symptoms aren't real, this is for you.

MCAS is not a rare edge case. It is an underrecognized condition affecting countless individuals whose suffering has too often been minimized by a fragmented healthcare system.

Increased awareness among clinicians and the public is essential, and it starts with conversations like this one.

If you're ready to explore a comprehensive, root-cause approach to your health, we're here. Go to our website: www.evergreennaturopathic.com, or give us a call or text at 509-755-5100 to learn more or to schedule a free consultation.

An Integrative Approach To MCAS Treatment: What Does It Actually Look Like?

Integrative care for MCAS is not about rejecting conventional medicine — it's about combining evidence-informed tools from multiple disciplines while continuing to investigate root causes.

A comprehensive approach may include:
— Dietary modification (low-histamine as a starting point)
— Gut health support (barrier integrity, microbiome balance)
— Targeted supplementation (quercetin, vitamin C, omega-3s)
— Nervous system regulation (breathwork, sleep, movement)
— Pharmaceutical support when appropriate (H1/H2 antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers)
— Identification and treatment of underlying triggers

Recovery is rarely linear, but with individualized support, meaningful improvement is possible.

The Nervous System And MCAS: A Critical But Overlooked Link

Mast cells don't just respond to allergens, they respond to your nervous system state.

Many patients with MCAS demonstrate heightened sympathetic activation ('fight-or-flight' dominance), which can directly amplify mast cell reactivity. This is not a character flaw or anxiety disorder, it is a measurable physiologic pattern.

Nervous system regulation is therefore not optional in MCAS care. Breathwork, reparative sleep, gentle movement, time in nature, and trauma-informed care approaches all have a role to play in reducing physiologic reactivity over time.

Healing the nervous system is healing the immune system.

What's Driving Mast Cell Activation? Root Causes Matter🍃

From an integrative medicine perspective, MCAS is rarely an isolated allergic phenomenon. It's often a downstream signal, the body's response to cumulative physiologic stress.

Common contributors include: chronic infections, mold exposure, environmental toxins, intestinal permeability, microbiome disruption, nervous system dysregulation, hormonal imbalances, and chronic psychological stress.

This is why treating MCAS requires looking upstream. Symptom management alone is rarely enough for lasting improvement. Identifying and addressing underlying triggers is where meaningful healing begins.

Why MCAS Is So Hard To Recognize 🔍

One of the biggest challenges with MCAS is that its symptoms are wildly varied, and they often look exactly like other conditions.

Patients may be told they have IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety, or 'just stress' - sometimes for years, before MCAS is ever considered.

That's because mast cells interact with the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems simultaneously. A single dysregulated mast cell release can affect your gut, heart rate, skin, sinuses, and cognition all at once.

MCAS is not 'all in your head.' It is a genuine physiologic condition with measurable immune signaling and inflammatory dysregulation.
