There's a whole new slate of opportunities for activities coming in August! These photos are from a recent trip to Mirabeau Park, and this month you can walk along the Centennial Trail, take a baking class, explore your artist side with a Sip and Paint night, and don't forget our monthly dance (this one is all about those 80's throwbacks!).

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the Spokane Complex Fires. đź’–

To help support our community, anyone impacted by the fires is invited to shop at either of The Arc Thrift Stores (Newport Highway is currently closed due to evacuation orders; Spokane Valley remains open). Simply let the cashier know you have been affected by the fires and you will receive 50% off your entire purchase.

We hope this small gesture helps provide some comfort and relief as you recover. Please share so we can reach those who may need it.

Everyone at The Arc of Spokane and our Thrift Stores is thinking of those affected and wishing you safety and strength!

Thank you to 4 News Now for helping to shed light on the potential loss of Parent to Parent services! We are grateful to every member of our community who shared their experience about the benefits of Parent to Parent (over 1500 people used the link within days of sharing statewide!). But our verbal contract only goes through August 31, and we need to continue sharing how vital this resource can be for families and kindred of those with IDD.

What can you do?
1. Send an email to the Governor through Action Network: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-the-governor-to-direct-dshs-dont-cut-parent-to-parent?source=&eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=bf8be515-a637-4b59-9552-dea0b2287c41
2. Call the Legislative Hotline to leave the Governor and your legislators a message at 1-800-562-6000.

Your voice matters. Your story matters. Together, we can ensure that families have access to this low-cost, high impact service that provides guidance, resources, and peer support.

We were honored to sit down with Council President Betsy Wilkerson for the Spokane City Council nonprofit spotlight! Disability Pride Month is important to recognize how far we've come in advocating for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We're grateful to local leaders who help us in building awareness!
