SPOKANE UPDATE: Over the last few days, clients, patients, students, colleagues, friends, and more have reached out to ensure our family is safe amidst the recent and ongoing Spokane fires. First and foremost, THANK YOU! Second, our family is safe and our home is untouched.
Since I’ve not been able to respond individually to everyone, a short update follows for those interested. Our home sits off Indian Trail directly between the 2 major fires (i.e. Old Trails and Autumn Lane - home emoji shows the location). The major risk right now is the Autumn Lane fire, as it is the most active and is ~1 mile from our home. Thankfully, lines have held and growth has been slowed in most areas of all 3 of the major fires.
While we’ve been evacuated since Saturday at ~2pm, we were able to walk into our neighborhood yesterday (a few miles hike) to check on things. We have large charcoal (former embers) littered through our yard though no damage. The destruction throughout our neighborhood and surrounding area is unfathomable. It is as bad, or worse in some locations, than what is being shown on national media outlets.
Many have offered resources and asked how they can be helpful. Our family has no specific requests right now, though we would ask you to continue to pray for those impacted (evacuees, those who have lost homes, etc.), first responders and fire fighters (for strength and stamina in their fight), and regional leaders (for wisdom and discernment). Many requests will begin to appear from local support agencies and disaster response groups - if you’re able, consider donating. The clean up, rebuild, and return to normalcy is going to take months to years for many in the NW part of Spokane.
