This child was not able to accurately say /r/ as of just a couple weeks ago… now look what she can do! 🤩

From day 1, she came in ready to give 100%… BUT, she knew it wouldn’t be EASY. Although it was tough at first, she never gave up and never stopped trying. 👏🏼

All I ask from my clients is they give me their best effort and never give up. Of course, it’s absolutely okay to take breaks. Learning new skills can be hard and extremely frustrating, but with consistency and practice… we see small glimpses of progress. ✨

There are some jobs you do for a living… and then there are the jobs that feel like a true calling. 🤍

I wake up every day feeling so incredibly blessed that I get to do this work. I get to help children find their voices, build their confidence, celebrate the little victories, and experience those moments when something that once felt hard suddenly becomes possible.

But truthfully, it’s so much more than speech therapy. It’s the relationships, the laughter, the trust, the tiny breakthroughs, and getting to be a part of a child’s journey as they learn to communicate with the world around them.

I never want to take that privilege for granted. 🥹

So grateful for this career, for every child who has trusted me with their voice, and for the opportunity to wake up each day and do something that feels so deeply meaningful.

I truly, truly love what I do. 🤍

Spokane parents! Does your child say “dum” for “gum” or “dye” for “guy?” 🧐

If so, can your child say just the /g/ sound using the back of their tongue? 👅

If not, you could try cueing them to keep their mouth open while saying /g/. 😃

If not, how old is your child? The /g/ sound is typically said and used correctly by most children by the age of 3. So, if your child is still having a difficult time saying or using the /g/ sound correctly beyond the age of 3, you may want to consider having your child evaluated by a Speech-Language Pathologist.

After the evaluation, the Speech-Language Pathologist will provide differential diagnosis, because depending on whether your child’s error is articulation or phonological in nature (or a combination of both), this will guide the treatment plan and approach being used. 👩🏼‍💻📝

Speech therapy can be evidence-based AND full of laughter, connection, and genuine joy. 🤍

This is what a therapy session can look like when we’re working on more than just getting a sound “right.”

In this session, we’re using principles of motor learning to help a newly acquired speech skill become more automatic and carry over into different words, situations, and eventually everyday conversation.

And yes… there’s a LOT of fun along the way. 😂

When people think speech therapy is “just saying words,” this is what they’re missing. 👏

Listen to the before vs. after of his production of the word “two.” In just one session, the lisp began to disappear..and he was producing it accurately on his own!

But the best part wasn’t just the sound. ✨

He developed the awareness to hear his own errors, started self-monitoring and self-correcting during spontaneous speech, and you could see his confidence grow with every successful attempt.

❤️ Small moments like these become big wins that carry over far beyond the therapy room.
