A stranger understood his name for the very first time. 👏🏼

It might sound like a small moment, but for this child and his family, this was HUGE.

For weeks, we’ve been working on improving his speech clarity—learning new sounds, practicing motor patterns, and building confidence one step at a time.

And for the very first time, when someone asked his name, he said it clearly. 🗣️

They understood him immediately. 🫶🏼

No repeating.
No guessing.
No mom stepping in to interpret what was said #.

Just a child being understood.

These are the moments that remind me why I love what I do.

Speech therapy isn’t only about producing sounds correctly. It’s about helping children communicate confidently, participate fully, and feel understood by the people around them. 💕

If your child is difficult to understand, know that progress is possible—and sometimes the biggest victories are the moments that seem small to everyone else.

✨ Clear speech. Confident kids.

If you’ve ever found yourself translating for your child, repeating what they said to others, or wondering why they get frustrated when communicating… you’re not alone. 🤍

Many parents are told to “wait and see,” but sometimes speech difficulties impact so much more than pronunciation.

When children are hard to understand, it can affect:
• confidence
• participation at school
• friendships
• emotional regulation
• willingness to communicate

Some signs I often hear from parents:
✨ “I’m the only one who understands them.”
✨ “Their teacher has a hard time understanding them.”
✨ “They get upset when people ask them to repeat themselves.”
✨ “Other kids are starting to notice they talk differently.”
✨ “They avoid talking in new situations.”

The good news? Early support can make a HUGE difference.

Helping a child improve their speech clarity isn’t just about sounds—it’s about helping them confidently express themselves, connect with others, and be understood in their everyday life. 💙

If something feels “off,” trust your instincts.

Save this post for later, share it with another parent or teacher, or send me a message if you have questions about your child’s speech development. I’m always happy to help.✨

Speech therapy should be effective *and* engaging. 👏

Yes, we’re doing drill-based practice here — but notice what else is happening:
✨ motivation
✨ connection
✨ confidence
✨ play
✨ parent coaching

In this session, we’re targeting phonological patterns like fronting and prevocalic voicing. He isn’t quite able to produce the words on his own consistently just yet, so I provide:
✔️ direct models
✔️ miming
✔️ visual-tactile phonemic cues
✔️ verbal prompts like “use the back of your tongue” and “we need a quiet sound, not noisy.”

As my client becomes more successful, I gradually fade the level of support to help build true independence and generalization. That’s where the magic happens. 🪄

One of my favorite parts? Mom is right there learning the exact cues and strategies so she can confidently support her child at home between sessions. Parent involvement makes SUCH a difference in progress. 💕

Therapy doesn’t have to feel like worksheets at a table to be structured, evidence-based, and effective. Kids can work hard, make progress, and still have fun doing it! 🙌🏼

POV: A parent finally gets a speech therapy referral…
and is then told “the waitlist is 9-12 months long.” 🫠

There is nothing more frustrating than watching families ready for support but unable to access services in a reasonable timeframe. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Parents deserve to know there may be additional resources such as free consultations and screenings in the area. Believe it or not, there ARE support options available sooner! Early intervention shouldn’t feel impossible to access. 🙏🏼

If you’re concerned about your child’s speech or language development, trust your gut and seek support early. 💛

Does your child say words in a way that’s hard for others to understand? 🗣️💭

Many Spokane parents wonder:
“Is this just a phase… or should I be concerned?”

The truth is, speech sound disorders are common in young children — and early support can make a big difference. 💛

In my newest blog post, I’m breaking down:
✨ What speech sound disorders actually are
✨ Signs to watch for by age
✨ When speech mistakes are developmentally normal
✨ When it may be time to seek support

If you’ve ever found yourself translating for your child or wondering why others struggle to understand them, this post is for you.

Some days in speech therapy are extra special. 💙

Today, I discharged this sweet girl after just 4 months of hard work in speech therapy — and I couldn’t be more proud. 👏🏼

When she first started, speaking clearly was frustrating and impacted her confidence. Through consistent practice, hard work, and determination, she met her goals and is now able to be understood when speaking. 💬

Watching a child gain confidence is truly one of the best parts of what I do. ✨
