Tummy time struggles??

There are multiple reflexes that fire when babies are on their tummies – this video is showing both STNR and Landau reflexes. Both reflexes should be active at this age - almost 6 months old – but this little one is getting frustrated and starting to lose her rolling skills because she is getting stuck in the Landau position – often called the Superman reflex.

This video shows an easy exercise you can practice at home to help babies find their ability to press down through their elbows and shoulders to hold their head up, find their midline, and make tummy time less stressful!

This was the first time I met my friend’s little one! She brought her in for a quick check in - almost 6 months old but born a month early and has been working with PT consistently.

Is your little one struggling with sitting?

This was the first time I met my friend’s little one! She brought her in for a quick check in - almost 6 months old but born a month early and has been working with PT consistently. This last month was told she was a bit behind with sitting! We found a few little reflexes not firing as easily as they should be, got those turned on and she was instantly able to do some ring sitting within just a couple minutes!

Babies are amazing! if you have a little one struggling with meeting milestones reach out to see if we can help!

7 years ago - 8/3/2019.

I am often asked how I got started doing breastfeeding and bodywork. It’s a long story but 7 years ago I was in a terrible bike accident that left me with 2 broken arms, a concussion, torn labrum in my hip, and many other small injuries and road rash. I was a mom of a 3 year old at the time who I was unable to pick up for weeks.

I was lucky enough to find Arman Mohsenian at a surgical appointment who introduced me to his lovely wife Maile Mohsenian and Empire Therapy. It was there that I was introduced to primitive reflexes and manual therapy to help me recover - I remember laying on the table and telling Maile I wanted to do what she was doing! At Empire, I learned a new passion of how intuitive the body is! I began working with moms and babies and finished my education to become an IBCLC as well as continuing education in manual therapy techniques.

As terrible as that day was - I’m so grateful for the path I have found!

I still believe in the power of women in sports, I have learned so many life lessons throughout the years that have shaped me into who I am today. And, despite the injuries I’m still working toward being a lifelong athlete!

Former collegiate gymnast and novice cyclist and current runner!

Stepping - The cutest of reflexes?? 👣

Part of a newborn exam includes assessing primitive reflexes - automatic movement patterns that turn in to more sophisticated and intentional movements throughout infancy and childhood such as crawling and walking.

The stepping reflex is present from birth and usually fades within the first couple of months as babies begin developing more purposeful movement. While it may look like your baby is eager to take their first steps, it’s actually their amazing nervous system practicing the building blocks for movement.

These early reflexes are important for more than just motor development—they can also influence feeding. A baby’s ability to organize their body, coordinate movements, and respond to touch all plays a role in breastfeeding and bottle feeding. That’s one reason why, when feeding isn’t going as expected, we look at the whole baby—not just what’s happening at the mouth.

Every baby develops at their own pace, but understanding these early reflexes can help make sense of your little one’s movements and support their growth along the way. 💛
