Small fiber neuropathy (SFN) is a condition that affects the small sensory nerve fibers responsible for transmitting pain, temperature, and autonomic signals. When it involves the ankle or feet, it can cause symptoms such as:

- Burning pain around the ankle or foot
- Tingling or "pins and needles" sensations
- Numbness or reduced sensitivity
- Sharp, stabbing, or electric shock-like pain
- Increased sensitivity to touch or temperature
- Symptoms that are often worse at night

Small fiber neuropathy typically starts in the feet and ankles and may gradually spread upward in a "stocking" pattern. Common causes include Type 2 Diabetes, prediabetes, autoimmune disorders, vitamin deficiencies, certain medications, infections, and sometimes no identifiable cause is found.

Diagnosis often involves a clinical examination, nerve testing, and sometimes a skin biopsy to measure nerve fiber density. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause when possible and managing symptoms.

Unsightly Toenails can be a big problem during the summer

Toenail fungus can cause nails to become thick, brittle, discolored, and misshapen, making them appear unsightly and difficult to maintain. The condition often develops gradually and may spread if left untreated. Besides affecting appearance, fungal infections can sometimes cause discomfort, making proper foot hygiene and timely treatment important for healthy-looking toenails.

Painful ingrown toenails occur when the edge of a toenail grows into the surrounding skin, causing discomfort, swelling, and redness. They most commonly affect the big toe and can make walking, standing, or wearing shoes difficult. Causes include improper nail trimming, tight footwear, toe injuries, and genetic factors. As the nail continues to press into the skin, the area may become infected, leading to increased pain, warmth, drainage, or pus. Early treatment often involves soaking the foot, wearing comfortable shoes, and carefully managing nail growth. Severe or recurring cases may require professional medical treatment to prevent complications and relieve pain. Contact us TODAY.

The most common causes of heel pain include Plantar Fasciitis, heel spurs, Achilles tendon irritation, stress injuries, or prolonged standing on hard surfaces. Athletes, healthcare workers, teachers, and anyone who spends long hours on their feet are especially at risk.

Tennis and Brachymetatarsia? How does it affect your game?

Brachymetatarsia can significantly affect your tennis game by changing how your foot absorbs impact and distributes pressure during movement. A shortened metatarsal can lead to pain in the ball of the foot, instability, decreased push-off power, and discomfort during quick lateral cuts, sprinting, and serving. Many athletes notice reduced balance, early fatigue, and difficulty with explosive footwork.
