This Sunday, September 13 is National Grandparents Day and if you're lucky enough to still have grandparents in your life, today's a good reminder to call them, visit them, or just tell them what they mean to you.

At Avatar Home Health and Hospice, we spend our days with grandparents and the families who love them. We see the steadiness they bring, the patience, the stories, the quiet ways they hold a family together across generations.

September is Alzheimer's Awareness Month and if you're caring for a parent, spouse, or loved one with memory loss, you already know that conversations don't work the way they used to.

The good news: small changes in how you approach a conversation can make a real difference for both of you.

A few things that help:
Approach from the front and say who you are, so they're not caught off guard.
Keep sentences short and simple, one idea at a time.
Skip the correction, if they misremember a name or a year, meet them where they are instead of setting them straight.
Use their name often. It helps them feel oriented and safe.
Let the quiet moments be okay. Silence isn't a failure of the conversation.

Hospital recovery doesn't have to mean endless trips to appointments. 🏡 Our home health team comes to you, managing wound care, monitoring vitals, guiding physical therapy, and catching complications early. Our goal is for healing to happen in the place patients feel safest and most at ease.
