This trend is funny... but it actually touches on something we work on in therapy more often than people realize. 😅

Facial expressions, tone of voice, body language, and social cues can be incredibly nuanced. For some individuals, reading those cues—or communicating their own thoughts and feelings in a way that matches what they mean—doesn't always come naturally.

Part of our work is helping clients build awareness around communication patterns, social cues, perspective-taking, emotional expression, and self-advocacy. Not so they can become someone they're not, but so they have more tools to communicate intentionally and confidently.

Because sometimes a "wow okay" is just a "wow okay"... and sometimes it's apparently seventeen different things. 😂

Connect Before You Correct

At Mind and Body Clinic, one phrase you’ll hear often is: “Connect before you correct.”

As parents, it’s natural to want to jump straight into solving a problem or addressing a behavior. But before correcting, take a moment to connect with your child first.

Connection can sound like:

* “Tell me what happened.”
* “Wow, that sounds really hard. Tell me more.”
* “I can see you’re upset. Help me understand.”

Or even,

Going on a walk together or a simple hug before jumping into the conversation.

When children feel heard, understood, and emotionally safe, they are much more likely to be open to guidance and accountability. By connecting first, we help lower defensiveness and create space for honest conversations, problem-solving, and trust.

Correction is important—but it is often most effective when it comes after connection. When children know we are listening and trying to understand their experience, they are more receptive to feedback and more willing to acknowledge mistakes and make better choices moving forward.

Connection builds trust. Trust makes correction possible. 💙

Something new is coming... and very soon!👀

Recently, we've seen a growing need in our community for support and connection for those navigating PANS/PANDAS. Whether you're newly exploring a diagnosis or still finding your footing after one, our hope is to create a space for learning, encouragement, and support.

We're excited to share that we plan to launch our PANS/PANDAS Parent & Caregiver Support Group within the next week or two.

This group will be designed to provide education, practical resources, and connection for caregivers supporting children with PANS/PANDAS.

In honor of Therapy Cancellation Season...

To all of our clients who suddenly remembered they will have their children full-time for the next 10 weeks... we understand. 😅

To those heading out on vacations, road trips, baseball tournaments, summer camps, lake days, and family adventures—we hope you have an amazing time making memories.

And to the parents who spent the last month counting down to summer break and then immediately realized what summer break actually means...

Godspeed. 🫡

We know the last few weeks of school and the first few weeks of summer can be a whirlwind. Between spirit weeks, class parties, performances, camps, childcare changes, vacations, and trying to establish a whole new routine, life gets busy fast.
When you settle into your summer rhythm, we'll be here. We'll miss seeing you, but we can't wait to welcome you back and hear all about your adventures, successes, and surprises.

It’s the little things, right?😅

Sometimes the smallest moments are actually signs of growth, regulation, self-awareness, and learning what supports you best.

We spend so much time focusing on what still needs to change that we can miss the progress already happening in our everyday life. Therapy isn’t only about reaching huge milestones — it’s also about noticing the quieter shifts along the way.

Which ribbon are you taking with you today? What’s your small celebration moment lately? 🏅💛

Today we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

And one of the most meaningful ways we can honor sacrifice… is to truly live in the freedom they helped preserve.

Freedom isn’t only something we experience nationally. It’s something many of us are still learning to experience personally.

Mentally → freedom can look like stepping out of a life of constant performance and striving. It can look like learning that your value is not measured by productivity, achievement, or how much you carry. Sometimes freedom looks like slowing down, setting boundaries, asking for help, and remembering that rest is not laziness—rest is productive, too.

Physically → freedom can look like listening to your body, caring for your health, moving in ways that support you, nourishing yourself, and recognizing that your body deserves compassion—not punishment.

Spiritually → freedom can look like living aligned with your values, making space for prayer and reflection, extending grace, and trusting that your worth is not earned.

And to those who served and survived—we see your sacrifice, too.

If you returned home but still do not feel fully free from what you experienced, please know healing does not dishonor your story. You do not have to carry those memories alone.

Today, we honor those who sacrificed so much.

May we not only remember their courage—but choose to live fully, love deeply, care for one another, and embrace the freedom we’ve been given.

With gratitude and remembrance,
The Mind and Body Clinic

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so can we acknowledge something for a second?

The last 2 weeks of school and first 2 weeks of summer in neurodiverse homes deserve their own awareness ribbon. 😂

Because apparently we needed:
✨ Two weeks of Spirit Week
✨ Three class parties
✨ Four altered schedules
✨ A different red sugary snack given at school every single day
✨ Late nights from class performances
✨ And approximately 14 conversations about whether school is happening tomorrow

Meanwhile parents are surviving on:
☕ Caffeine
🧂 Electrolytes
🙏 Prayers

But in all seriousness—
If your house feels louder…
If emotions are bigger…
If routines are falling apart…
If everyone seems clingier, more exhausted, more reactive, or just “off”…

You’re not alone.

Transitions are hard. Even exciting transitions can be activating. For many families, especially neurodiverse families, routine changes can mean nervous systems are working overtime.

This season doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It may mean your family needs a little more margin, rest, movement, connection, and grace.

Signed,

The Mind and Body Clinic 🤍

Purpose is something we talk a lot about in therapy and often it comes with the questions of "who am I" and "who do I want to be," but if we are what we do, we can end up feeling lost. If you are struggling with that question come and see one of our therapist and we will explore what that looks like for you!

Summer often brings a shift in rhythm — more sunlight, different routines, and sometimes a little more space to slow down and notice what you need.

This season doesn’t have to be about doing more. It can also be a chance to reconnect with yourself, care for your nervous system, strengthen relationships, and invest in your mental health in ways that feel meaningful and sustainable.

Sometimes that looks like rest. Sometimes it looks like support. Sometimes it’s taking the extra margin in the season to take care of yourself, so you can show up how you want to.

You deserve support in every season ☀️
