Frankenstein may be able to turn his entire body every time someone calls his name, but the rest of us need a neck that actually moves. 😅⚡
The small muscles at the base of the skull contain an especially high concentration of muscle spindles—receptors that detect tiny changes in muscle length, tension, and head position.
This creates a constant stream of cervical proprioception, telling the brain where the head is in relation to the body. Your brain compares that information with input from the eyes and inner ears to coordinate:
*Head and eye movement
*Balance and posture
*Spatial orientation
*Smooth, accurate neck movement
When the joints in the neck aren’t moving well, that sensory input can change. The nervous system may increase muscle tension or alter movement patterns to help the head feel stable.
You may notice that checking your blind spot requires a full Frankenstein-style turn from the waist, or that your shoulders come along every time someone calls your name.
Chiropractic adjustments introduce precise movement into restricted joints, stimulating the mechanoreceptors that communicate with the brain. Better movement provides clearer information for the nervous system to use as it coordinates the head, eyes, and body.
Save the stiff neck, robotic turns, and neck bolts for Frankenstein this Halloween. 😜 Your nervous system was designed for much more coordinated movement!
