When there is talk about the nervous system, most people recognize the terms “fight, flight, or freeze.” We understand that under extreme physical threat, our bodies automatically react to protect us. What we rarely talk about is how suicidal ideation can be an extension of this exact same survival loop.

When emotional pain, chronic stress, or trauma becomes too heavy for too long, your brain searches for an immediate exit. In this state, suicidal thoughts are often not a desire to end your life, but rather a profound “flight” or “freeze” response. It is your nervous system’s automatic, overwhelmed reaction to an intolerable situation, signaling that it desperately needs to escape the pain.

If you experience these thoughts, it does not mean you are weak, failures, or broken. It means your internal alarm system is exhausted and trying to protect you from suffering the only way it currently knows how. Understanding this link can help remove the heavy layer of shame that so often surrounds suicidal ideation.

You don’t have to navigate an overwhelmed nervous system alone. Therapy can help you gently retrain your nervous system to find safety and processing space again.

If you or someone you know is navigating a crisis, please know that immediate support is available 24/7. You can call or text the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Entering into mental health therapy can also provide a safe, non-judgmental space to help you process these experiences. Please reach out to us directly to connect with a therapist.

You are not alone. The next step you can take on your healing journey is to talk to someone.

Who else is their own worst critic? BE KINDER TO YOURSELF OKAY? You're doing your best.
(Also leaving this reminder for myself because I am a terrible boss and expect too much and should probably give myself many more breaks and a lot more kindness too)

🍊 Authentic August starts here. 🍊

What would change if you showed up as your most authentic self this month?

Authenticity isn’t about being perfect or having everything figured out. It’s about making choices that reflect your values, expressing what you truly feel, and giving yourself permission to be seen as you are.

This month, challenge yourself to take one small step each day toward living more authentically. Whether it’s setting a boundary, speaking up, reconnecting with joy, or simply asking yourself what you really need, these small moments can lead to meaningful change.

Save this calendar, check in each day, and see where authenticity takes you. 🌿

When stress hits, your body reacts to keep you safe. You might fight back, run away, freeze in place, or fawn to please others. These are normal trauma responses. They are not your fault.

Healing means learning to calm your nervous system and feel safe again.

We are here to help you navigate these feelings.

Understanding the Four Stress Responses:

Fight
🥊 You feel angry or aggressive.
🥊 You want to control the situation.
🥊 Your jaw or fists clench up.

Flight
✈️ You feel a sudden urge to leave.
✈️ You stay busy to avoid feelings.
✈️ Your heart beats very fast.

Freeze
❄️ You feel stuck or unable to move.
❄️ Your mind goes totally blank.
❄️ You disconnect from your body.

Fawn
🦌You rush to please everyone.
🦌You say yes to avoid conflict.
You ignore your own deep needs.

Moving Forward

👀 Notice your body’s signals without judgment.
😮‍💨 Take slow, deep breaths to ground yourself.
😌 Give yourself time to rest and reset.

💬 We have immediate openings for new clients. You do not have to navigate this alone. Call us today to schedule your first session at 417.409.3008.

Life doesn’t stop, but you can. 🛑

When you are juggling work, family, chores, and endless to-do lists, overwhelm can sneak up fast. Life stress builds up just like work stress.

If you are feeling emotionally exhausted, irritable, or just completely drained, your mind and body are telling you to pause.

Taking a break isn’t lazy—it is necessary maintenance for your mental health.

Simple ways to reset when life feels heavy:

💚Put down the phone and sit in silence for 5 minutes.
💚Step outside for a breath of fresh air.
💚Postpone non-essential tasks until tomorrow.
💚Say “no” to extra commitments this week.

You cannot pour from an empty cup. Give yourself permission to pause today. 🛋️✨
