🧠 On yoga, aging, and our minds:
Studies on yoga and meditation have shown real, measurable benefits for older adults facing cognitive decline including improved memory performance, better mood, and changes in the brain linked to healthier aging. But general benefits are one thing. What actually helps is a practice built for the person in front of you. 💪
I have an older student who began private 1:1 sessions with me after learning she was in the early stages of Alzheimer's, including mild dementia. Because we work one-on-one, every session is built around her: bilateral stimulation, core strength, mobility, cognitive stimulation, breathwork, mantra, and meditation, adjusted week to week as she needs. 🙌
This student told me recently that she feels "so much better every time she’s [here]" and that she looks forward to our sessions every week. With her family's support alongside our work together, she says she feels strong, hopeful, and grateful. 🥹 What a gift to be part of her journey!
Group classes are powerful. But some seasons of life call for a practice that moves at your pace, built around exactly where you are. If you or someone you love is navigating aging, memory changes, or just wants more individual attention on the mat, private sessions might be the right next step. As I move forward with Yoga Therapy school in October and beyond, I can’t wait to learn more about how to match my passion for working with older students with my enhanced skillset.
Message me to talk about what a 1:1 practice could look like for you or your loved ones. 💜
