Shirts in honor of Coach Mike Mike Suhadolnik
Longevity participant and friend of Coach Mike designed “The WODfather” shirt, featuring a great photo of Coach Mike’s signature smile on the front. The back is filled with some of Coach Mike’s most legendary one-liners and punchlines, lovingly collected over the years by our Longevity crew. If you ever had the privilege of being coached by Mike, there’s a good chance you’ll recognize more than a few of them.
Coach Molly, Mike’s daughter, created two additional designs that hold special meaning.
The first features Coach Mike’s beloved Airdyne bike. If you ever spent time with him at the gym, chances are you found yourself “assigned” to that bike at some point, and probably didn’t enjoy it in the moment! If he wasn’t reaching for a barbell, the Airdyne was his favorite training tool. Mike himself rode it every single day. Molly even remembers being just a little girl, spending Saturday mornings at the gym while her dad pedaled away on that bike.
The second design features a clenched fist with a gold tooth on the knuckle. It represents one of Coach Mike’s most infamous stories. Back in his construction days, someone decided to talk a little too much trash, and it ended in a fistfight. According to Mike, when he punched the man, the man’s gold tooth became lodged so deeply in his knuckle that he couldn’t get it out—and it stayed there for the rest of his life. His family always thought it was just one of Mike’s tall tales until years later, when an MRI confirmed there really was a tooth in his hand! The doctors and nurses couldn’t believe it, and from then on he was permanently unable to have MRIs. Whether you heard the story once or a dozen times, it perfectly captured Coach Mike’s tough, no-nonsense personality.
On the back of both of Molly’s shirts is the phrase “You’ll Be Alright.” It was something Coach Mike would say to his daughters whenever they came to him with a problem. It was simple, tough, reassuring, and unmistakably him. Molly felt it was the perfect message to carry with us as we remember him.
