Since high blood pressure and elevated blood pressure often have no symptoms, checking your blood pressure is the only way to know for sure whether it is too high. If you have hypertension, consider calling Caring Health Center at 413-739-1100, ext. 4026, to enroll in the Self Measured Blood Pressure Program so you can receive a free home device to regularly measure your blood pressure.

Caring Health Center’s Wellness Center is offering an upcoming Diabetes Self-Management workshop in Spanish. This 6-week series teaches techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration. It also includes symptom management activities like exercise, relaxation, communication, healthy eating, and medication management. This class is for diabetics and for family/friends of diabetics. June is officially recognized as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. The number of Americans living with Alzheimer's is projected to double to nearly 14 million people by 2060, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While advanced age and genetics are major risk factors, the CDC points out that environment and lifestyle habits also heavily contribute.

Caring Health Center joins the community in mourning the passing of former Urban League CEO Henry Thomas III. As Congressman Richard E. Neal has noted, "The city of Springfield has lost one of its most prominent advocates and cherished sons.”

A Springfield native who attended Camp Atwater as a youngster, he reopened Atwater in 1980.
