Steven Torrey, age 62, passed away on June 9th, 2026.

Born on April 16, 1964, Steven was a hardworking man whose dedication and skill earned him the respect of everyone who knew him. For over 30 years, he worked for Chaves Excavating, where he became a master of his craft and a valued member of the team. His knowledge, work ethic, and willingness to tackle any mechanical challenge left a lasting mark on those who worked alongside him.

Steven is survived by his wife Shari; his children, Christopher, Patricia, and Kyrsten; his nephew Dakota, grandchildren, and extended family and friends.

Outside of work, Steve was known for his love of Corvettes. He took pride in his vehicles and could often be found tinkering on them in the driveway with his signature White Russian drink. He was well known for his colorful language, trademark shorts, and the larger-than-life personality that could make people laugh, shake their heads, or both.

More than anything, Steven will be remembered for being unapologetically himself. Whether behind the wheel of a big rig, on a job site, or spending time with family and friends, he lived life on his own terms.

Steven’s presence, humor, and spirit will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the lessons he taught will remain with all who knew and loved him.

Smile, God loves ya.
