⚠️ Content Warning: This post contains discussions of su***de. If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that support is available 24/7. You can call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (US/Canada), or text HOME to 741741 to connect with the Crisis Text Line.

September is Su***de Awareness Month 🤍

A month dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, encouraging conversations about su***de, and promoting help-seeking.

Sometimes the signs are not obvious, and we might not have all the perfect words. We can, however, play a role in prevention. Let this be a reminder to create space for honest conversations, listen without judgment, and encourage those who are struggling to seek support.

If you’re struggling, feeling hopeless, or wondering whether things can get better, you don’t have to navigate those feelings alone. Reaching out to a trusted person or mental health professional can be an important first step. Remember- A simple, “How are you really doing?” can open the door to connection and remind someone that they don’t have to face it alone.

National Grief Awareness Day | August 30th

Today, on National Grief Awareness Day, we honor those carrying the weight of loss.

Grief is deeply personal and can follow many kinds of life changes. It may come after the death of a loved one, but it can also accompany divorce, miscarriage, illness, job loss, or other significant life changes.

Another thing to remember: there is no right way to grieve, and healing doesn't happen on a schedule. If you're grieving today, we pray you experience God's comfort, strength, and peace in the midst of your journey.

You don't have to walk through it alone. We are here to walk through a grief journey with you- reach out to [email protected] to get connected.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

Meet Jamie!

She specializes in working with those experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and self-worth struggles. When asked her favorite coping skill she responded, “My favorite is Cognitive Reframing. This process involves identifying distorted or unhelpful thoughts and intentionally replacing them with objective, neutral realities.”

Cognitive Reframing is not about forcing toxic positivity or pretending difficult situations don't exist. Instead, it's about challenging the stories our minds sometimes tell us and asking, "What's another way to look at this?"

When we reframe our thoughts, we often reduce emotional distress and can respond to situations with greater clarity. Thoughts shape how we feel—and learning to shift those thoughts can be a powerful step toward improving mental health.

Have you tried this coping skill?

Hayley’s Favorite: Window of Tolerance Education

Meet Hayley! She is one of our PLPC’s who specializes in working with teenagers and young adults. When asked her favorite coping skills she responded, “One of my favorite coping skills to teach is the Window of Tolerance because it helps us understand why we feel the way we do—not just what to do about it.”

What is it? Think of your nervous system as having a "window" where you feel present, connected, and able to manage life's challenges. When you're inside your window, you can think clearly, regulate your emotions, and respond rather than react.
When you're above your window (fight or flight), you may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or on edge. Grounding exercises, deep breathing, or taking a short walk can help calm your nervous system.

When you're below your window (freeze or shutdown), you may feel numb, disconnected, or stuck. Gentle movement, fresh air, or connecting with someone you trust can help bring your nervous system back toward regulation.

The goal isn't to stay regulated all the time—it's to recognize when you've moved outside your window of tolerance and have tools to gently support your nervous system as you return to balance.

The more we understand our nervous system, the more compassion we can have for ourselves. 🤍

Coping Skills Spotlight Series: ⬇

Meet Nikki! She is one of our clinicians who walks alongside trauma survivors and is passionate about supporting those experiencing anxiety, depression, and low self-worth. One of her favorite coping skills is distance viewing because it helps calm the nervous system.

Distance Viewing Explained:
When we're anxious, our eyes often dart from side to side without us realizing it. Distance viewing is the practice of intentionally shifting your gaze from a close, narrow view to a distant, broader perspective.

Try focusing on a distant object—a horizon, tree, or rooftops—and slowly move your gaze from one end to the other. If you can't get outside, looking out a window or even at a landscape photo can work. Repeat with another distant object until you notice a sense of calm and a shift in perspective. 🪟

Kaci’s Favorite Coping Skill: Going for a walk

Meet Kaci! Kaci is passionate about supporting women through life challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, transitional periods, and divorce recovery. When asked her favorite coping skill she responded, “simple: go for a walk.” She explains how walking regulates our nervous system, lowers stress, creates space to process emotions, and often brings mental clarity. Walking offers an opportunity to step away from racing thoughts. She says, “You don’t have to walk miles-even 10-15 minutes outside can be enough to help you reset, breathe, and take your next step with a clearer mind.”

Try it out today and let us know how you feel! 👟

She specializes in working with those managing stress, anxiety, life transitions, identity concerns, and navigating relationships!

When asked about her favorite coping skill, she identified walking in nature with friends. She explains that spending time outdoors with friends helps reduce her stress levels while boosting her mood and mental clarity.
