Ready for flu season? 🍂 Now’s a good time to get your vaccines on the calendar. Flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines each have different timing recommendations. Here’s when to get each one:

Flu: September or October is the best time to get vaccinated for the fall flu season, but it’s still a good idea to get your vaccine later in the season. The vaccine takes about two weeks to become fully effective.

COVID-19: The COVID-19 vaccine was recently updated, and with the respiratory season upon us, receiving this vaccine now will provide the best protection (assuming you received the older vaccine more than three months ago). Additional doses may be recommended based on age, vaccination history and immune status. When additional updates to the vaccine happen, immunization is recommended ASAP, but no sooner than three months after your last COVID-19 vaccine.

RSV: Eligible adults should get the RSV vaccine between August and October, or any time of year. You do not need to get an RSV vaccine every year.

Not sure which vaccines you need or when to get them? Talk with your healthcare provider.

Rural health challenges require local solutions and strong partnerships! We're proud to join Heartland Whole Health Institute and partners across Arkansas in the Rural Health Transformation Program, working to create healthier communities and improve access to care where it's needed most.

Big news for rural health in Arkansas.

Heartland Whole Health Institute is proud to convene six Arkansas health care organizations through Heartland Whole Health Connect, a new rural health initiative supported through $8.4 million from Arkansas' Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).

Together with Mercy, Community Clinic, Boston Mountain Rural Health Center, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, St. Bernards Healthcare, and Arkansas CPESN, we’ll work to expand access to primary and preventive care, strengthen chronic disease management, increase telehealth and remote care, and advance whole-person care closer to home.

We’re excited for what this investment makes possible for Arkansas and what we can learn together to help shape the future of rural health across the country.

We’re excited to highlight Kayce today! As a certified Ophthalmology Assistant and Scribe for Dr. Tauber, Kayce is a key part of our Refractive Team here at Vision by Mercy. Beyond her expertise, Kayce makes a real difference in the lives of our patients, always leaving them with a smile.

When asked, Kayce said the most rewarding part of being on the Refractive Team is being able to help people do things they were previously able to do before their vision went south. A fun fact about Kayce is that she was an elementary school teacher for 7 years prior to working at Mercy. One bit of advice she wants to share regarding overall eye health is to, "get regular eye exams, even if you don't have a need for glasses. So many things can be caught with a simple eye exam, even non-eye related issues".

Today is also Kayce's birthday, so don't forget to wish her a Happy Birthday!

We’re incredibly fortunate to have her on our team and appreciate all the dedication she brings to her role. 🙌

Today, we are highlighting the newest member of Dr. Tauber's Refractive Team, Skylur! You might see Skylur helping treat your eyes in the surgical room alongside Dr. Tauber, or the exam rooms here at Vision by Mercy. Although he started with us only a few months ago, he has been an incredible help to our team, and is always willing to learn more, do better, and provide patients with a stellar experience.

Skylur said that the most rewarding part about being on the Refractive Team is watching our patients ditch their glasses and get the vision they've always wanted. An interesting fact about Skylur is that he is Dr. Tauber's scrub tech for refractive surgery, so he will be with you every step of the way from the PRK exam to the procedure, and to the post op visits. A bit of advice he wants to share about overall eye health is, "that drops are you friend!"

Skylur's positive attitude and team spirit create such a great work environment. We’re lucky to have him here with us! 🙌

In 2024, Dr. Tauber performed a total of 60 corneal transplant surgeries in partnership with Saving Sight. To be able to give people their eyesight back and quality of life reminds us what a blessing it is to do what we do. Dr. Tauber, thank you for continuing to give your patients hope and joy with each procedure you do!
