Today, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a beautiful reminder of the hope that is at the heart of our Catholic faith.

At Calvary Cemetery, we are reminded each day that death is not the end. Mary's Assumption into Heaven points us to the promise of the Resurrection and the eternal life won for us through Jesus Christ.

As we honor Our Blessed Mother, let us ask for her intercession for our families, for those who mourn, and for all the faithful departed entrusted to God's loving care.

Our Lady, assumed into Heaven, pray for us.

Why do Catholics have cemeteries?

Catholic cemeteries are sacred grounds where we honor the dignity of every person and remember the hope we share in Christ’s Resurrection.

It is a place of prayer, remembrance, and connection between generations. Here, the faithful gather to pray, reflect, and celebrate the lives of those who have gone before us, while the faithful departed rest in peace as we await the promise of eternal life.

Catholic cemeteries remind us that death is not the end of our story, but a moment we entrust to God’s loving care.

🕊️ Calvary's Weekly Hour of Mercy

At 3:00 PM today, may our Springfield community be united in one prayer for the Holy Souls, trusting in the infinite mercy of Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Resurrection and the Life. Through Your Passion, Death, and glorious Resurrection, You opened the gates of Heaven and revealed the depth of Your infinite mercy.

With confidence in Your loving compassion, we entrust to You the souls of all the faithful departed. Receive them into Your embrace, forgive every sin, and complete in them the work of Your saving grace. May they soon behold the joy of Your presence, where sorrow is no more and life everlasting is fulfilled.

Look with mercy upon those who have no one to pray for them, those who are most in need of Your compassion, and all who await the fullness of Your heavenly kingdom. May our prayers today be a sign of our love for them and our faith in Your promise that death is not the end.

Increase our trust in You, Lord. In moments of grief, strengthen our hope. In moments of uncertainty, remind us that Your mercy is greater than our fears and Your love is stronger than death.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
