As National Midwifery Week continues, I’d love to share about another wonderful midwife in the Dayton area!

Meet Ciara! We met while working at a credit union before I had my babies, then a few years later, our paths began crossing again in the birth world!

Ciara is so chill and such a great resource in the birth space. At the last birth we attended together, she was serving as a second midwife — and a total surprise to see her when I arrived! She used her exceptional skills to help keep mama safe when bleeding exceeded what was safe at home.

You would be in great hands with Ciara! ✨

Follow her at Peace, Calm, & Harmony Midwifery! 🤍

National Midwifery Week is October 4-10th! 🎉

So let’s talk about my favorite, Emily Schultz 🤍

She is genuinely the best! IYKYK. 🥰 Working with her over the past several months has been a literal dream come true ✨ she is highly skilled and belongs in the birth space.

But there’s more to midwifery than exceptional skill. She has such a kind and calming presence. Every time I’m serving with her, I know that family is in the best hands! 🫶

If you’re considering a home birth near Dayton, call Emily as soon as you get those two pink lines 💕 I hear she has really great assistants too 😏💅

Talk about a 1-in-100 sight! 🤯✨

Have you ever seen what a placenta with an accessory lobe (medically called a succenturiate placenta) actually looks like?!

This only happens in about 1% to 2% of all pregnancies. Instead of growing as one solid disk, a smaller "satellite" lobe forms separately, linked to the main placenta only by a delicate bridge of fetal blood vessels running across the membranes.

I recently supported an incredible mama whose placenta did exactly this, while effortlessly growing a baby who was just a hair shy of 10 lbs! Absolute rockstar power. 💪

The human body builds an entire custom organ from scratch, and sometimes it adds its own rare design twist. Birth never stops being fascinating! 😏

I spent yesterday (Thursday) attending a sweet new baby’s birthday party 🥳

Baby was 9lbs, 15.3oz of chunky baby perfection! 😍 Mama was fully unmedicated, trusted her body and worked sooo hard to bring baby into the world.

🎉💃 …yes, that’s something we celebrate!! 😂

I am so proud of her! 😩🥲🥰

A recent client’s mother gave her the gift of doula support by covering my entire fee. 🥹

As a mama who had given birth five times herself, she could have easily leaned on her own experience. She could have claimed the space, assumed she held all the answers, or dismissed the need for a trained doula.

Instead, she graciously chose her daughter. 🤍

She openly shared that it had been years since her own childbearing days, and above all else, she wanted her daughter to be supported with the most current information available.

So often, baby registries overflow with clothes and gadgets… but what if the most unforgettable gift we could offer an expecting mama is pregnancy/birth education, confidence, and continuous labor support? 🤍

If you are wondering how to truly bless a growing family, consider gifting doula support. The outfits and gadgets will eventually get donated to Goodwill, but a mama carries her birth stories with her forever.

I’ll admit, I am not a reader. 😬

But reading — ahem, listening to — the books needed for my certifications reminded me that I do enjoy good content.

My husband is currently finishing up his doctorate, and he is quite the reader. He showed me how to listen to my books and even bought me a fancy pair of bone conduction headphones 🎧 I’ll link them in the comments for anyone interested.

Anyway, if this season of life doesn’t allow you the time to sit down and crack a book open, here are a couple ways you can stay on top of your TBR list by listening instead. 🤍

One of my top priorities when attending hospital births is to keep eyes on the room. 👀

When your baby finally arrives, your partner, mom, or best friend will be fully immersed in the raw beauty and relief of that moment. They will be crying happy tears, taking in those first incredible moments, and marveling at the tiny human you just brought into the world. It really is so special 🥰

What you don’t want is for critical moments to slip through the cracks while everyone is distracted.

What am I talking about? 🤔

Here are some examples that happen more often that we’d like to admit…

✨ Immediate cord clamping before delayed cord clamping has actually occurred.
✨ Aggressive cord traction to manually pull the placenta out before your body is ready.
✨ Perineal suturing or repairs started without adequate local anesthesia or explicit, informed consent.
✨ Routine postpartum interventions or newborn procedures performed without checking in with your birth plan first.

A loved one is emotionally invested, as they should be. 🫶

A trained doula holds space for those emotions while staying alert to the clinical environment. Ensuring your preferences are respected, and your informed consent remains the top priority from labor through the golden hour, is one of my main priorities.

You deserve a partner who can be completely present in the joy of meeting your baby, and a doula by your side to protect your birth space. 💁‍♀️

Are you building your birth team?

I’d love to chat about how professional doula support can add value to your birth experience. 🥰

Over the course of 10 days, I have supported 4 mamas through birth. I’m not usually this busy, but it has been an honor to be invited into each of their birth spaces.

Today, I’m enjoying the OSU game with my favorites! ♥️🩶
