Our October HCAT meeting featured two incredible organizations making a meaningful impact in the recovery community!

We were grateful to welcome Power Forward 25 and the Michael J. Dias Foundation to share more about their programming and unique initiatives.

🔹Power Forward 25 kicked off our meeting with Kelli Wilson (President & CEO), Dana Lindsey (Program Director), and Kevin Stevens, former NHL player and two-time Stanley Cup Champion, whose personal recovery journey inspired the organization’s mission.

Their initiatives include the Power Forward Sober Living Scholarship Program, which helps individuals access safe recovery housing during the critical weeks following treatment, with more than 750 scholarships awarded to date. They also introduced us to their D.O.E.R. Project (Dog Ownership Enhancing Recovery), a way to explore how trained service dogs can support recovery by fostering responsibility, accountability, stability, and purpose.

Power Forward is also developing a sober living tracking and management platform designed to strengthen recovery housing services through data. The platform tracks resident feedback, engagement, recovery goals, length of stay, reasons for departure, and longer-term outcomes. It also helps participating homes monitor occupancy and improve funding transparency. By using data to better understand what supports successful recovery, Power Forward hopes to strengthen standards, improve accountability, and inform evidence-based recovery housing practices across Massachusetts.

🔹The Michael J. Dias Foundation (MJD) followed with a presentation from Gina Alimberti (Executive Director), Mike Boisvere (House Manager), and Randy Holmes (House Manager). Founded in memory of Michael J. Dias, the Foundation was established to turn loss into hope by supporting individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.

The Foundation operates three recovery residences for men, each honoring individuals whose lives were impacted by addiction: Michael’s House, established in memory of Michael J. Dias; Sean’s Place, honoring Sean Wilczynski; and Christian & Brian’s House, honoring Christian Diaz and Brian Metzger. MJD is also currently working on opening up a new sober living home for women.

These homes provide safe, structured, MASH-certified recovery housing where residents can focus on sobriety, personal responsibility, and building a foundation for long-term recovery.
Through peer support, structured recovery expectations, life skills, community engagement, and a strong emphasis on accountability, residents are supported as they work toward greater stability and independence.

The Foundation also provides family support and education, school presentations, community outreach, and prevention efforts locally, to reduce stigma of those under the throes of addiction.

We’re thankful to both organizations for sharing their work and for the many ways they contribute to recovery and community support throughout Western Massachusetts.

Their presentations were a valuable reminder that recovery takes more than treatment alone. It takes connection, opportunity, and a community committed to helping people move forward. 💜

We had an awesome turn out this weekend at our National Drug (Rx) Take Back site in Chicopee!

It was great to see so many people come by and safely dispose of their unused and expired prescription medications. 💊

For those of you who weren’t able to make it, there are other ways you can discard your medications. See the flyers below for some local drop off locations.

🔹A quick note: These flyers do not include local pharmacies. Many major pharmacy chains offer in-store medication drop off kiosks. Contact your local pharmacy today and learn what items they accept!

Have unused or expired medications sitting in your medicine cabinet? HCSO invites you to take a few minutes to clean them out and bring them to our 𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆!

Safely disposing of medications helps prevent accidental poisonings, misuse and addiction while keeping potentially dangerous drugs out of the wrong hands. It’s a simple step that can help protect our families, neighbors and communities.

“Something as simple as cleaning out your medicine cabinet can make a big difference,” said Sheriff Nick Cocchi. “We want to keep unused medications out of the wrong hands, prevent accidental doses of the wrong drugs and protect our families. Stop by Saturday, drop them off, and let us take care of the rest.”
