• Create change in communities to ensure opportunity and full, meaningful participation for all people. People First Language
A person with a developmental or intellectual disability is first and foremost a person. Let’s use language that respects people as part of our community. Say…
Person with a disability
Instead of…
Disabled or handicapped

Say...
Person with cognitive or intellectual disability
Instead of…
Mentally retarded or retard

Say…
Person who uses a wheelchair
Instead of…
Confined to a wheelchair

Say…
Person who has a physical disability
Instead of…
Crippled

Say…
Accessible parking
Instead of…
Handicapped Parking

Say…
Non-disabled
Instead of…
Normal or healthy

A couple of our members have been selected by the National Disability Rights Network to be a part of a documentary about how Medicaid impacts the disability community. We are so excited to get to be a part of this! We will share the documentary once it’s completed!

Before heading to the polls, take time to learn about the candidates and ballot measures you’ll see on your ballot. Understanding what each proposed amendment would do and what a YES or NO vote means can help you make informed decisions on Election Day.

At DDRB, our goal is to provide clear, accessible, and nonpartisan voter education so members of the disability community, their families, and supporters have the information they need to participate in the voting process.

Voter Education Reminder: This post is for educational purposes only. It does not support or oppose any candidate, political party, or ballot measure. Our goal is to help voters understand each proposed amendment, what a YES vote means, and what a NO vote means so they can make informed decisions on Election Day.

Be prepared before you vote on August 4.

On August 4, Missouri voters will have the opportunity to vote on proposed changes to the Missouri Constitution. Depending on where you live, your ballot may also include local candidates and issues.

Understanding what's on your ballot before Election Day can help you feel more informed and confident when you vote.

The St. Charles County Election Authority provides the full ballot language and additional information about the August 4 election.

You can review the ballot here: https://sccmo.org/2425/August-4-2026-Republican-Party-Ballot

At the DDRB, we believe everyone deserves access to clear, understandable voting information so they can make their own informed decisions.

The last day to register to vote.

Congratulations Jennifer!
