I have been working in the mental health field since 2002, getting fully licensed in 2004. I have worked in various settings including vocational rehabilitation and community mental health, both of which gave me great experience with people of all kids of needs and mental health issues. In 2010, I took the plunge and went into private practice and have been loving this job more and more. People as

k my specialty and I will answer with 'people'. Everyone has issues they face everyday and it's my role to help my clients navigate them all and get to place in their life with more clarity and positive movement forward! I have also added an additional certification of a Certified First Responder Counselor. First Responders have an incredibly demanding role in our community and the challenges of these jobs can take a toll on mental health. I strive to provide a comfortable place along with a great understating of these roles for those needing assistance in coping with the great challenges these jobs entail.

I am very excited to announce that I have added a new type of therapy to my toolbox to help clients overcome many challenges through Accelerated Resolution Therapy(ART) . As a break away from EMDR, ART is a brief therapy that targets the images, emotions and body sensations that come with traumatic and stressful life events. What I love about this most is that a client does not have to retell their stories of trauma to gain relief and the client is in complete charge and can keep details private. Through the use of eye movements and reprocessing memories, relief from anxiety and other uncomfortable feeling are in almost all cases eliminated. It is true that after this process, your brain will store the facts of a memory, but not the feelings associated with it. In focusing on a different part of your brain, this process really will help a client to reduce anxieties and other uncomfortable emotions.

In working with First Responders, I feel this is a valuable tool as there is minimal talking and there is no need to rehash bad calls and bad days to find relief.

I am already seeing so much success with this approach and I am excited to be able to offer this to so many for so many different reasons!!!! Please message or email me with any more questions!!

Well I am just getting to the news of the day and just realized it’s International Women’s Day (if you are avoiding the news too I don’t blame you)
And as I typically treat all people the same, I think it is a good reminder today that women are pretty darn incredible.
Our shoulders get heavy
Our hearts carry a lot
We love and give like nobody’s business
We strive to find those balances between work and home, whatever that actually means
We have empathy
We have strength
We have fun
We hopefully learn from each other and not tear others down

I’ve been fortunate and humbled to work with many women on the path to not only be better, but also acknowledge the need to care for ourselves

So to all the ladies tonight and everyday, take care of you first and foremost and know you are a bad a$$ that gets stuff done!!! (But after you get that stuff done, or before, take care of you)

Hugs to all and here’s another hope I’ll post on here more regularly!!!

So wow, been way too long since my last update, it’s been busy! So cheers to all of you taking care of your mental health and seeking counseling, us therapists are busy, but we are here for you in our best capacity!

But my thoughts tonight….
21 years ago tonight my now husband proposed, holy cow we might be old. That night we went to share the news with my grandma who was married 55 years when her husband passed. She brought us an adult beverage from her downstairs refrigerator and said, I’m happy for you, but you have no idea what you are getting into. Marriage is work, hard work. At the time I thought ok grandma can we celebrate the night? But she was spot on. It’s work to stay married, it’s not just saying I do and hoping for the best. It’s putting in the the time and trying to be better for your spouse and yourself more than anyone else.
As I don’t see couples anymore as I know where my strengths are professionally, I hope that everyone in a relationship can ask yourself are you working harder at anything than your relationship with the people closest to you? We definitely as humans tend to take for granted those closest to us, but don’t work harder for your boss than you do for the people that mean the most.

This summer I found a certification that truly got me thinking and very much energized me about using my abilities to be a resource for a community that needs qualified mental health professionals. First Responders absolutely need people that get them and professionals that are able to help process all they endure on the job in an unbiased and judgment free place.
In October I started this 50 hour training program and I couldn’t be happier that I did. I’m proud to say that on Friday, I completed all the requirements and passed the test and now have new letters behind my name.
I’m excited to go in a direction to help a grossly unrecognized community of people who see more ugliness and negative stuff in a week than all of us will ever see in a lifetime. First Responders have a high rate of mental health issues and trauma and yet they are expected to deal with it on their own as it’s part of the job.
I’m humbled to have had many First Responders trust in me up to this point and I’m hopeful to help bring much more awareness and lessen the stigma for others to follow the path of it’s ok to reach out for help.

If I had a dollar for everytime someone in my office said the words of “I shouldn’t complain, it could be worse”, I could buy my husband his dream boat or me an entire closet of just shoes.
I’ve struggled with the right words to respond until I saw this and it was my ah ha moment. Could it be worse? Possibly? But stop questioning it! It’s another wasted energy for sure. Happiness and contentment are something that are never questioned so why should we question any of the negative emotions or feelings? ALL feelings are justified, it’s what we do with them that matters!
Stay warm and safe everyone, the weather and our feelings aren’t permanent, we aren’t going to live in the polar vortex forever even though it seems like it!

I am now able to accept Cigna insurance!! Call or email for questions or to schedule an appointment!

Food for thought today....
People have opinions about your life but are they actually losing sleep over what road you chose? Probably, most likely not, so listen to that gut as it usually knows best!!!

Great reminder as we get ready to start a new week!
Remember, focus on what you HAVE done, not all the other negative stuff our brains like to remind us of, it’s just not worth the time and energy.
