This is a public service announcement for those who may not know what’s going on.
•There a several active wildfires in Canada & Minnesota
•These fires will likely burn for awhile as they are in remote areas and not easily accessed by firefighters to extinguish them
•The smoke from these fires has blanketed the state of Michigan in a layer of thick smoke. This is why it is hazy outside and the sun is orange / red in color
•Air quality is horrible. Doesn’t matter if you’re in Detroit, Flint,Roscommon or Taylor It’s bad everywhere.
•The smoke will briefly clear out Friday evening but air quality will likely still be impacted all weekend
Now here’s what you can do in response.
•Stay indoors as much as possible
•Run HVAC & car AC units on recirculate (MERV-13 filters are recommended for home HVAC)
•Wear an N95 mask if you have one
•DO NOT call 911 to report smoke or smell of smoke. Dispatch centers are overwhelmed by these calls already. Don’t add to that extra load. - DO CALL 911 if you are certain you are seeing active fire
