Your health deserves more than reactive care.

At Mission Metabolic Health, we combine physician-led longevity medicine with the power of fitness, nutrition, and health coaching to help you build a healthier future; not just treat problems as they arise.

This is a different approach to primary care. This is the Mission Metabolic difference.

**The Back Squat: one of the most effective movements for building lower-body strength. 🏋️‍♀️**

The squat trains your quads, glutes, hips, and core while reinforcing a movement pattern we use every day—from sitting and standing to lifting and climbing stairs.

A few important cues:
✔️ Brace your core before you descend
✔️ Keep your whole foot planted
✔️ Let your knees track with your toes
✔️ Keep the bar balanced over your midfoot
✔️ Allow your torso to lean naturally while maintaining a neutral spine
✔️ Drive through your whole foot and keep your hips and chest rising together

And remember: **good squat form doesn’t look exactly the same on everyone.** Your anatomy, mobility, stance, and bar position all influence how your squat looks.

Train the movement well, progressively increase the challenge, and build strength that carries over into everyday life.

**Strong legs. Strong foundation. Stronger for life.**

**Build a stronger back with the Bent-Over Barbell Row. 💪**

This foundational pulling movement targets the upper and mid-back while also challenging your core, grip, and overall stability.

**Focus on:**
✔️ Neutral spine and braced core
✔️ Hips back with a slight bend in the knees
✔️ Drive the elbows up and back
✔️ Pull toward the lower chest/upper abdomen
✔️ Lower the bar with control

When performed with good form, the barbell row can help build a stronger, thicker back, improve posture, and increase total-body pulling strength.

**Quality reps > heavy weight.**

Most people know their A1c number. Far fewer know what it *doesn't* tell them.

An A1c is a valuable tool, but it's only one piece of the metabolic puzzle. It can't show glucose spikes after meals, overnight fluctuations, or the early signs of insulin resistance that often develop years before diabetes is diagnosed.

That's why we often look beyond a single lab value. Tools like fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, oral glucose tolerance testing, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) can uncover patterns that help us intervene earlier—when lifestyle changes are often most effective.

If you've ever been told your labs are "normal" but you still don't feel like yourself, it may be time to take a closer look.

Read our latest blog to learn why seeing the whole picture matters.

Not every "normal" lab result tells the whole story.

A1c has been the go-to marker for diabetes for years, and for good reason—it provides a helpful snapshot of your average blood sugar over time. But averages can hide important details.

Two people can have the exact same A1c while experiencing very different glucose patterns. One may have steady blood sugar, while the other has frequent spikes and crashes that increase metabolic stress without ever showing up on a standard lab report.

That's why we believe better information leads to better decisions. By combining tools like fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, oral glucose tolerance testing, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), we can often identify metabolic dysfunction earlier—when there's more opportunity to make meaningful changes.

If you've ever been told your labs are "normal" but you still don't feel your best, this week's blog explains why that can happen and what to look at next.

**Master the Single-Arm Dumbbell Row 💪**

A simple movement that delivers big results when performed with proper form.

**🔹 Setup**
• Stand in a staggered stance behind a bench.
• Place your non-working hand on the bench for support.
• Hinge at the hips until your torso is nearly parallel to the floor.
• Let the working arm hang straight down with the dumbbell.
• Brace your core and keep your spine neutral.

**🔹 Movement**
• Begin by pulling your shoulder blade down and back.
• Drive your elbow upward and slightly toward your hip.
• Pull the dumbbell toward your lower ribs.
• Pause briefly at the top.
• Lower the dumbbell slowly and with control until your arm is fully extended.

**Why add the Single-Arm Dumbbell Row to your workouts?**
✅ Builds strength in your lats and upper back
✅ Improves posture and shoulder stability
✅ Helps correct side-to-side muscle imbalances
✅ Challenges your core to improve overall stability

Remember: quality reps beat heavy weight. Focus on control and proper technique to get the most out of every repetition.
