Back again for a little doula work update. 🤍

At the end of the year, I posted stats for my year.

A little recap..
Overnight support hours: 984
Daytime support hours: 158

So far this year, here’s where I’m currently at:
Overnight support hours: 1,033
Daytime support hours: 240

This year has looked different than the past FOUR years serving our community. I’ve supported families through complex issues like: infant loss, postpartum mental health, and complicated infant medical conditions. Support for every family looks so different.
While I LOVE to support moms through childbirth- I have such a deep love and passion for pregnancy and childbirth.. this season has highlighted my place in postpartum support as well.

I am thankful for the opportunity to support these families. But I am also thankful for the much needed rest coming my way. We have a short trip planned soon. Then when we return, I’ll actually have 3 nights off per week- I’ve been working 7 nights a week for longer than I’d care to admit 😅. Then we patiently wait for 2 of my other repeat clients to go into labor.

I don’t know that I’ll ever feel worthy to do this work, it’s a privilege to enter every birthing space and every home during the most vulnerable times. Thank you to all of my clients who have trusted me.

Mom is in transition, drifting into a restful sleep between each contraction. 🤍

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted—and a few months since my last birth.

I’m currently supporting many clients day and night and intentionally taking things a bit slower when it comes to attending births. My plate is full, but my heart is even fuller.

I’m soaking up every moment I get to spend with the families I’m honored to support—two sets of twins and one singleton. I’m deeply grateful for the relationships built through this work and will never take for granted the bond formed during one of the most meaningful seasons of their lives.

2025 was another successful year of doula work, even though it looked a little different than years past. Over nearly four years as a doula, I’ve loved supporting families through a mix of birth support and overnight care. Before having Noah, I leaned heavily into birth support. Now, while balancing life at home with two children, I’ve shifted more toward overnight support. This change has given me greater predictability and the gift of being more present at home with my boys.

Of the 13 births I supported this year, three were for repeat clients—and I’m already honored to have two repeat families booked for 2026 🤍

I’ve found myself truly enjoying overnight support, even though it can be taxing. There’s nothing quite like seeing parents wake up refreshed, calm, and confident after a night of care. Those quiet mornings are incredibly meaningful.

Being a doula is the most rewarding work I’ve done—so much so that it hardly feels right to call it “work” at all. While this role asks us to pour deeply into serving others, it gives back in ways that are hard to put into words.

As I look ahead to 2026, I’m filled with gratitude and excitement—ready to continue showing up for families, supporting them in the tender hours, and doing this work that I truly love.

Even when you’ve got the timing of baby due date / on call window / out of town wedding all figured out.. Babies come when they want to!

We were at a family wedding in KC when my client texted that her water had broken, being 36+4, 1cm dilated and having contractions.

The next morning, she was between 4-5cm dilated, we finished loading up and heading home. Labor was intensifying, so I called my dear doula friend, Jessie to provide support until I got there. I had arrived with a few hours to spare before baby made his arrival.

So thankful for having amazing doulas in our area that will care for your client as their own. 🤍

With a few hours to spare after a surprise birthday party, I rounded out the night with an overnight.

The last night of support for a family is always bittersweet. 🥹
We’ve savored the last few weeks of overnights, but these sweet boys are rocking ~10+ hour stretches of sleep. So tonight I get some twin snuggles to hold me over until my next set of twins in February!

&& This week will round out with 3 more overnights.

Mom & dad are resting..so for now, I’ll join them in resting while we have the chance 🤍

Today was a bit of double duty having a postpartum visit with a birth client earlier in the evening and a few short hours later, overnight support.
As I’m wrapping up my twin contract, with just a few nights remaining.. tonight I begin a contract with a new family.

So thankful to come alongside families with overnight support. It’s an honor to help create space for parents to get the rest they need. Truly grateful to every family who welcomes me into their world.

Starting mid-October, I’ll be available up to 3 nights per week, and beginning mid-November, up to 5 nights per week.

One of the tougher parts of being a doula is not being able to control the outcome.

Mom can do all the right things- during pregnancy & labor.. and the birth plan still seems to go out the window. But my role is to support mom in whatever choices she makes.

After 50+ hours of intense labor and adding some interventions, trying dozens positions/variations, not able to sleep despite having an epidural, baby’s heart rate having consistent and prolonged decels.. she looked at me and asked “Am I horrible for considering a C-section?”

My heart could shatter. Not because of a c-section, but because moms feel guilt and shame for making that choice. I always tell my moms, whatever decision you make is the right decision.

If we are going to change gears and have a cesarean, then it’s better we have the opportunity to talk through it and make an informed choice.

She was exhausted. She was worried about her baby. And we were running out of options to keep baby’s heart rate stable.

Her OB never pushed for a cesarean, was supportive of letting her body process labor as it would naturally- but was supportive in mom’s request.

Mom & baby girl are doing incredibly well and latched quickly after settling back in for recovery. Maybe even one of the record speed latches that I’ve seen! 🩷

Provided support for an incredible first time mom whose labor did not fit the standard of a textbook birth. With 18 hours of in person support, she completely rocked this unmedicated birth. Contractions started Sunday evening but labor didn’t truly begin until Monday evening. Mom was fully dilated for over 6 hours without a true urge to push and was laboring hard.
You never know what birth will bring.. which is why choosing your birth team carefully is so important.
Our nurse was incredible and was so intentional on sticking to mom’s birth plan. When the on call OB wanted cervical exams- she didn’t even ask my client to do one, she reported back to the OB that the patient had declined cervical exams. There was no added pressure to veer from her birth plan.
At shift change, my clients provider was on call and checked in immediately. Patient, calm, and so encouraging. She spent hours in the room with us, watching mom, talking through options, & stayed the entire duration of pushing.

Mom was incredible. When in active labor and having been awake for nearly 36 hours and laboring hard.. it’s so easy for our mindset to be affected. This is where birth preparation has a major impact- as always Purple Lotus Doulas played a key role in mental preparation, stamina, and navigating when your birth doesn’t go exactly as you envisioned it. Mom was willing to try every position to get baby in a better position and well applied to the cervix. Hands and knees, squats, side lying release, walchers, lunges, sitting on the toilet- you name it- she tried it & probably twice. Pushing through sheer exhaustion, she handled each contraction with peace and control. You would’ve thought she was in early active labor with how she handled every contraction, through to pushing. I could not have been more proud of this mom.

Some births are long, but there is no place I’d rather be than standing alongside my clients through the finish line.

✨ What a full and beautiful week of supporting families! ✨

This past week, I’ve had the honor of:
▪️Providing 5 nights of overnight newborn support, 4 nights for a set of twins, 1 night for a sweet baby girl.
▪️Met with 2 clients for prenatal visits as they prepare for labor.
▪️Checking in during 1 postpartum visit, debriefing a birth that took an unexpected turn requiring vacuum extraction. Mom & baby are doing amazing!
▪️And meeting with a new family for a consultation to explore how doula support can help them feel more confident and cared for.

This upcoming week is already quite full as well!
▪️ 4 overnights (maybe + 1 more)
▪️ 1 postpartum visit
▪️ 1 prenatal visit

Being able to walk alongside families during these tender and transformative moments is exactly why I love this work. 💛

Birth Support:
As we move into late summer, early fall, & 2026, I have space to provide birth support for a few more families.

Overnight Support:
For families seeking overnight support, I have limited availability remaining for July and August. Beginning in September, my schedule allows for up to 5 nights per week of dedicated overnight care.
I’m looking to partner with a family during those first months postpartum—offering consistent support to help you settle in, get the rest you need, and establish healthy sleep rhythms for your little one.
Many of my overnight contracts range from 1–3 months and can be tailored to meet your family’s unique needs.
