Barnes-Jewish ranked nationally in 10 specialties, including cancer; diabetes and endocrinology; rheumatology; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; geriatrics; neurology and neurosurgery; obstetrics and gynecology; orthopedics; pulmonology and lung surgery; and urology. Barnes-Jewish was also ranked #1 in both St. Louis and Missouri for cancer and orthopedic care and rated as high performing in 17 procedures and conditions.

Over the past 10 weeks, our Summer Research Program students gained hands-on research experience, worked alongside faculty mentors and explored the many facets of imaging science. Their final presentations showcased the knowledge, skills and curiosity they've developed along the way.

The 2026 Summer Program of Imaging in Neuroscience (SPIN) cohort wrapped up the program by presenting their final research projects — a showcase of the knowledge, skills and scientific curiosity they developed throughout the summer.

A new portrait in Mallinckrodt Tower honors Dr. Richard Wahl, former director of WashU Medicine Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, for his leadership and contributions to medical imaging and nuclear medicine.

Dr. Wahl helped pioneer the use of PET scans to detect cancer and other diseases, advancing technologies that continue to help physicians diagnose illness more accurately and personalize treatments. As department head, he prioritized mentoring and supporting the next generation of leaders.
