Sometimes the past shows up in the present before you even realize what is happening.
A change in someoneâs tone, a difficult conversation, or a moment of tension can suddenly bring fear, defensiveness, anger, or the urge to fix everything. A part of you may know you are dealing with what is happening today, while another part reacts as though something older has returned.
This weekâs Mindful Minute was inspired by our Harbor Lights Blog article, âOld Trauma Resurfacing: Finding Inner Peace in Relationships.â
For the next minute, the invitation is not to force yourself to calm down or push away what you are feeling. Instead, see if you can gently notice what is happening inside you.
What part of you is here right now?
What might it be trying to protect?
Can you offer it a little curiosity instead of criticism?
Sometimes finding peace begins with creating just enough space to listen before you react.
