Congrats to Courtney Sandheinrich, a social worker with Mercy St. Louis' complex care and infection prevention teams, one of last quarter's Sunshine Award winners. The Sunshine Award is a recognition and reward program for our non-nursing ancillary care, support services personnel and volunteers who show exceptional service and compassion every day.

Courtney was nominated by a patient who wrote, in part, "...kindness, compassion, support and help in a difficult and stressful situation. You went above and beyond to support [us] with the concerns...You made us feel so safe, supported and heard. Thank you so much. Lots of love and hugs!"

Courtney's email signature may have been a hint to the award and highlights how she treats those around her, "Be someone's sunshine when their skies are gray."

Thanks for being the sunshine, Courtney!

Ready for flu season? 🍂 Now's a good time to get your vaccines on the calendar. Flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines each have different timing recommendations. Here's when to get each one:

Flu: September or October is the best time to get vaccinated for the fall flu season, but it's still a good idea to get your vaccine later in the season. The vaccine takes about two weeks to become fully effective.

COVID-19: The COVID-19 vaccine was recently updated, and with the respiratory season upon us, receiving this vaccine now will provide the best protection (assuming you received the older vaccine more than three months ago). Additional doses may be recommended based on age, vaccination history and immune status. When additional updates to the vaccine happen, immunization is recommended ASAP, but no sooner than three months after your last COVID-19 vaccine.

RSV: Eligible adults should get the RSV vaccine between August and October, or any time of year. You do not need to get an RSV vaccine every year.

Not sure which vaccines you need or when to get them? Talk with your healthcare provider.

At Nikki's 20-week ultrasound, she found out William had an omphalocele, a congenital abnormality occurring very early in pregnancy when the baby's abdominal wall does not form properly. She was referred to Dr. Dan Jackson, a Mercy maternal fetal medicine specialist (high-risk OB), who helped ease her concerns throughout her pregnancy while he worked behind the scenes with the pediatric and obstetric care team to prepare for William's arrival.

With full-service adult and pediatric hospitals, Mercy St. Louis is unique in giving mom and baby a high level of care with the comfort knowing they'll work together after baby arrives. Learn more at 🔗 in comments.

Rural health challenges require local solutions and strong partnerships! We're proud to join Heartland Whole Health Institute and partners across Arkansas in the Rural Health Transformation Program, working to create healthier communities and improve access to care where it's needed most.

Big news for rural health in Arkansas.

Heartland Whole Health Institute is proud to convene six Arkansas health care organizations through Heartland Whole Health Connect, a new rural health initiative supported through $8.4 million from Arkansas' Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).

Together with Mercy, Community Clinic, Boston Mountain Rural Health Center, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, St. Bernards Healthcare, and Arkansas CPESN, we’ll work to expand access to primary and preventive care, strengthen chronic disease management, increase telehealth and remote care, and advance whole-person care closer to home.

We’re excited for what this investment makes possible for Arkansas and what we can learn together to help shape the future of rural health across the country.
