Being a mom to a teenager is such a strange and beautiful thing.
One day, they’re reaching up for you—and somehow, almost overnight, they’re taller than you.
They don’t need you in all the ways they used to. You’re no longer answering every question or automatically being the first person they reach for. Their world is getting bigger, and your place in it begins to shift.
There’s a quiet ache in that.
You spend so many years being needed so completely. Then, little by little, your job becomes letting go—giving them room to make decisions, form their own opinions, learn their own lessons and become who they’re meant to be.
It can make you incredibly proud and a little heartbroken at the exact same time.
Sometimes I miss those moments when I was needed for everything. But I also love getting to know the adults they are becoming…
Motherhood is full of these bittersweet moments: grieving a version of them you’ll never get back while feeling so grateful for the person standing in front of you.
Can anyone else relate with this stage of life? 🤍
