ANC took ACVIM 2026 Seattle by force — in the lecture hall and on the wharf.
Here are the highlights:

Future ANC neurologist Dr. Kara Majors delivered a capstone lecture on vertebral malformations and best practices in treatment.
Graduating resident Dr. Allison Dupoint won a research award for her presentation on swallowing dysfunction in brachycephalic breeds with cervical disease.
Dr. Wininger capped Friday’s MRI lecture series with a deep dive into AI and its impact on neuroimaging. On Saturday, he inspired fellow veterinarians to take up the mantle of practice ownership and help take the profession back.

Dr. Kristy Keyes, Ashley, and Alex supported the team while soaking up all the MRI and technical knowledge they could by day — and the best of the Pacific Northwest on the pier by night.
Colleagues new and old came together for a special weekend of learning, camaraderie, and ANC pride.

Not to be outdone, Dr. Allison Dupont absolutely rocked her presentation on dysphagia in dogs with spinal cord injury at 2026! Her research explored how spinal cord disease affects swallowing in our beloved Frenchies and other brachycephalic breeds. The findings were fascinating, clinically impactful, and delivered with confidence, enthusiasm, and genuine passion.

You made all of us proud, Dr. Allison! 👏

Yesterday at , Dr. Kara Majors presented her research on spinal malformations in the flat-faced breeds many of you share your homes with. French bulldogs, pugs, and the rest of the curly-tailed crowd.
Her work looked at how to help these dogs move more comfortably. We’re proud to have her as a part of The ANC team!

Poochella did not disappoint. 🐾🎉

The Animal Neurology Center was proud to have a booth at Poochella Adoption and Community Festival 2026 — and what a day it was. Dogs everywhere, incredible energy, and a community that clearly loves its pets deeply.

Events like this are a reminder of why we do what we do. The bond between St. Louis and its animals is something special — and we are grateful to be part of the community that shows up for it.

A huge thank you to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for bringing this event to life and for the work they do every single day to give dogs a second chance. What you do matters.

Can we skip to the good part?

We absolutely can. Meet sweet Charlie — a dachshund who came to The ANC unable to walk, and left doing exactly that.

Charlie underwent a ventral slot procedure performed by Dr. Keyes, and this before and after says everything that needs to be said.

We are honored to care for these patients and live for outcomes like these!

This month we are leading with Ripley — a dog who chased an armadillo off a cliff, fractured her lumbar spine in one of the most severe cases we have ever seen, and somehow came back five months later running, swimming, and fetching like nothing happened. For veterinary professionals: Dr. Wininger writes about neurophobia, why it exists, and what a fundamentally different approach to neurology education could look like. He also challenges the decades-old recommendation of strict crate rest for IVDD patients with some genuinely surprising evidence from the literature.

For pet owners: meet Vinny. A 4-year-old rescued Pit Bull who arrived at The ANC unable to move and in significant pain. His diagnosis was rare, his surgery was complex, and his recovery made everyone in the building smile. His family's words say it better than we ever could.

The ANC is growing — and we are looking for the right person to grow with us.

We are hiring an Overnight RVT, and this role is different!

You will care for 3 to 5 patients per shift. That is intentional. A small, focused caseload of animals recovering from life-saving neurologic surgery or being monitored through complex neurologic conditions. The kind of work where you actually know your patients. Where what you do overnight genuinely matters to their recovery.

This is a specialty environment built around a culture of growth, learning, and real collaboration. If you are a Missouri RVT who is passionate about neurology, wants to work somewhere that takes patient care and team culture equally seriously, and is ready to be part of something that is still being built — we would love to hear from you.
