Come Home to Yourself
A Somatic Movement + Sound Healing Experience with Gayla Downey Grateful Heart Rituals, LLC
Saturday, October 17 | 9:00–10:30 AM

There’s a kind of knowing that only shows up when we slow down. It lives in the body, and it tends to wait until we stop rushing before it speaks.

This Saturday morning, Gayla Downey, RYT-500 (she/her), founder of Grateful Heart Rituals, will guide us through gentle somatic movement and breath, then into an extended sound healing journey where you can rest and receive. The practice is listening inward, noticing what feels supportive and true for you, and letting that be enough.

Along the way you’ll have room to make your own choices about how you move and how much, which is where self-trust starts to grow.

Whether you’ve been coming to Empowered Spaces for years or this would be your first time through our doors, this morning is for you. It’s for anyone moving through change, celebrating growth, or needing space to pause and breathe.

What to expect:
Gentle somatic yoga and mindful movement
Breath and body awareness
Opportunities to explore choice and self-trust
Stillness, reflection, and journaling
Extended sound healing for rest and integration

Rest is not something we have to earn. It is part of being human.

So many of us move through the week carrying it in our shoulders and jaws, going from one demand to the next without anywhere to set it down.

Our bodies know when they’ve been running too long, even when the calendar says to keep going.

This fall we’re making room for something different.

Nap Club: Community Rest is a new, donation-based, weekly gathering led by Angela Dahm (she/her).

This offering stands in the lineage of Tricia Hersey and The Nap Ministry, whose work names rest as resistance to grind culture and to the systems of capitalism and white supremacy that teach us our worth is measured by what we produce.

Resting in community matters too. Our nervous systems take cues from one another, and there is something healing about letting go in the presence of others who are letting go alongside us.

Come be invited into a space of rest and restoration.

Each Wednesday evening, we’ll gather together to slow down, reconnect, and practice the art of rest.

We’ll begin with simple group check-ins and create a welcoming space where you can set aside the demands of the week and simply be.

Each gathering will include gentle practices for restoration — meditation, quiet time, gentle yoga, creating our own cozy “nests” for rest, reflection, and time to simply breathe as we practice community rest together.

This is a space to remember that rest is not something we have to earn. It is part of being human.

Come as you are. Rest with us.

What if yoga could be a place to begin listening to your body differently?

For some people, yoga becomes part of a larger healing process. It can complement psychotherapy or other forms of support, creating opportunities to notice sensation, movement, breath, boundaries, and choice in ways that can deepen our relationship with ourselves and cultivate a felt sense of safety.

And for others, yoga might be the place they begin.

You don’t have to already be in therapy or know anything about trauma or somatics to come to this class.

You might simply know that you’re feeling disconnected from your body, carrying more than you want to carry, or curious about what it might be like to approach yourself with a little more attention and care.

This is a practice rooted in choice. There is room to move, to be still, to rest, to modify, and to listen for what feels supportive in the moment.

Yoga to Support Trauma & Somatic Healing
Tuesdays, 9–10am
Led by Gayla Downey, Gayla Downey RYT-500 (she/her)

No previous yoga experience is needed, and mats and props are provided.

If you’ve been looking for a way to begin—or to deepen—the work of coming home to yourself, you’re welcome here.

Grief and joy draw from the same well.

Most of us have felt this in the body: the ache of missing someone rising up during a beautiful moment, or a flicker of lightness arriving in the middle of a hard season.

The heart holds both at once, and it helps to have somewhere to let that be true.

On October 2, Kryssi Crayton-Day, M.A.T., 500-CYT (she/her) leads Month 6 of The Heart of Healing:

Thresholds of the Heart, A Yoga & Mindfulness Journey Through Grief and Joy.

Kryssi will guide gentle, trauma-informed movement and restorative postures, woven with breathwork and meditation, giving the body room to set down some of the weight of mourning while staying open to what still sustains you. We close with deep rest and reflection. Moving alongside others turns private grief into something held in common.

You might be carrying a recent loss, or simply feeling the heavy pull of the world right now. There’s room for you here.

If you’ve been part of The Heart of Healing, this is a gathering to come home to. If you’re new, you’re welcome to join us for this one evening.

A few spots are open.

With how overwhelming life is right now, for just about everyone, it’s understandable to want to feel better.

And sometimes we do need exactly that: relief, rest, support, a way out of overwhelm. That’s real.

But some things are supposed to affect us. I don’t think we can live in this world right now and not be affected.

The grief, the loss, the injustice, and the love, the beauty, the joy. We’re meant to feel all of it.

I don’t want us to get so practiced at managing our inner worlds that we lose the ability to listen to them.

Or so skilled at soothing ourselves that we can comfortably tolerate things that are actually asking something of us.

That’s why I have complicated feelings about the word “regulation.” I don’t want healing to mean adapting ourselves perfectly to conditions that deserve our attention instead.

What I want is more room for feeling, more capacity for listening, more access to choice.

What might become possible if feeling wasn’t something to get better at managing, but something you could learn to listen to?

With love and care,
Kelly
