Happy birthday to this guy who makes us all want to be better versions of ourselves, and encourages us in that gentle, subtle, meaningful way. He has made an impact on many lives and continues to do so every day. It’s going to be a great day filled with lots of time outside, grilling, beers, visits from family, ribs, and gooey butter cake 🎂

Thanks to all of my family and friends who celebrated with us last Sunday, who sent real cards in the mail (so fun!), who sent gifts and texts, my friends at work who brought treats and decorated my desk, my family who spoiled me yesterday, and friends who celebrated with us last night. But most of all thanks to the best husband ever who made all of this happen. Cheers to 40!❤️ @ St. Louis, Missouri

Step ups!
I love step ups and there is a variation of these in almost every program that I do.
It's always good to do single leg exercises, and there are so many variations of these. You can do a side or front step-up, and you can vary the height.
Be sure that you're not pushing off the bottom foot, and try to lower down slowly. Add weight when you can, especially if it's a low step!

Favorite ab moves!
(see more videos on my Instagram post or in my FB group)

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I don’t focus on my abs very often. Maybe one day a week after I work out I’ll do some core work. Since I’m lifting heavy weights, and my core is always engaged while lifting, I don’t feel the need to work on core all the time.

BUT, these are some of my go-tos when I do. There are so many good ones out there but I tend to come back to these often.

🔹ab rollouts
🔹hollow hold variations
🔹V-ups

What are your favorites?

Fun core work!

I saw post this today and thought I’d try it! She has a crazy strong core and suggested more reps than I can do, but I loved it!
If you don’t have sliders you can use towels.

Chest and Back Basics! (More videos on Instagram and in my FB group!)

I say this all the time, but the focus of my strength building workouts is always working big muscles. For upper body this means chest and back.

Luckily this also means that your core and arms will get a workout too, because performing these exercises uses those muscles as well.

This is a very typical upper body workout, with some shoulder or arm work at the end. But if I’m pressed for time I’m perfectly happy with just doing exercises for the chest and back.

🔹barbell row
🔹Barbell chest press
🔹incline chest supported dumbbell row
🔹incline dumbbell chest press
🔹pull-ups (I always squeeze some of these into both upper and lower body days)

What are your favorite chest and back exercises?

So proud of this girl! It was cold and rainy but she did great!

Arm exercises that may be new to you!
(More videos in comments)

If you have never worked with a trainer or don’t work out at a gym much, you may not have seen these before.

I did these toward the end of my workout after my heavier push and pull lifts for my chest and back (which I always do first and with heavy weight).

🔹seated rotation and press
🔹single bent over lateral raise
🔹Zottman curls

Have you ever tried these? Let me know what you think of them!
