In patients with possible myocarditis, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging may offer important prognostic insight beyond diagnosis alone.

In a study of 787 patients, atrial long-axis shortening on CMR independently predicted major adverse cardiovascular events, with below-median LA-LAS associated with more than twice the risk over 3.5 years.

These findings suggest atrial functional measures may help refine risk stratification in patients being evaluated for myocarditis.
