Today is Yoshi’s fifth birthday and he was given the gift of peace. He was diagnosed 6 weeks ago with lymphoma stage 5b. I was told he had only 2 weeks to 2 months to live. For the past 2 weeks, he would look lethargic and I would think “this is it” and then he would rally. He would chow down his food and play a little bit. Today was different. He wouldn’t eat anything, no chicken, no cheese and no cheeseballs. It was the look that he gave me to let me know he was ready. He looked into my eyes and I knew exactly what he meant. Rest in peace Yoshi. Wish we had more time.💔💔

Happy New Year and NO I didn’t retire, lol. I heard that vicious rumor again. If and when that that time comes, I will let everyone know. It is also assumed that due to my lack of presence on social media.

Patients ask me frequently when I am going to retire. My answer is always this, “my office and my patients are “my purpose and what would I do if I didn’t do this?’. I have seen 4 generations of one family, 3 of others and many mothers and daughters. Nothing is greater than this. The community has trusted me with their women’s healthcare for over 25 years and I thank all for that.

I must admit, in this healthcare climate, it is getting financially more difficult every year. Solo practices are being forced to join larger corporations to make ends meet. It’s corporate against corporate and it’s the patients that lose. Providers in that industry are given a time limit to see patients. That is so disappointing. No provider goes into this industry thinking that they are going to have to work piece-meal or that patients are a “number”. They get limited time to talk to a patient. There is no better way to get to know a patient than by just having a conversation. We learn so much by that. Y’all know how I like to talk, lol, maybe too much sometimes, sorry about that.

To be able to continue to operate in the way I always have, I must complete most of the administrative tasks, accounting, ordering, credentialing, licensing, etc and for the past 13 months, the medical billing.

I found during the billing process, that this is not for me. I get so annoyed, frustrated and angry at the insurance industry. I get offended and my feelings hurt when I send out bills for ‘patient responsibilities’ and they don’t even get acknowledged. I plan on giving this up this new year because I don’t have it in me to do this.

So to make a short story long, I did NOT retire and this is the reason my social media is almost nonexistent and I don’t have a website because there are not enough hours in a day to manage these pages.

Happy New Year.

MONEY BEFORE PATIENTS!! This is what is wrong with our healthcare system. THIS IS WHY I choose to be self-employed despite it being very difficult to maintain a solo practice. The costs of everything rising but I am not in it for the money. I am not forced to send patients to anyone in one network. When needed, I can refer to providers that I would send my family members to. There is a lot to be said for that; I can sleep at night.. AND, I am fortunate to have support of many great specialists in the area.

SUPPORT MIDWIFERY.....IF IT HAPPENS THERE, IT CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE......
