Summer 2022 brought big changes for Sherwood Massage!

I am making exciting changes in my business – which includes Elements Running Education running coaching for women. Right now this means that I'm not taking on new massage clients and continue to work with a limited base of established clients only. I'm no longer at my previous location in Sherwood.

I'm still here - been busy! My schedule is currently full, and I have a waiting list for new clients.

This happens every now and again when bookings really pick up. It's very important to me to support my existing clients on their treatment plans, and I always prioritize fitting in regular clients first. Those relationships and ongoing care matter to me. Before taking on a new client, I want to make sure I have availability for follow-up appointments too, as it takes a regular commitment to massage therapy to get on top of chronic pain and injuries. But once you're in, you're in.

Happy Thanksgiving week! As much as we love the holidays, sometimes stress comes along with it. You’re out of your routine, planning elaborate meals, entertaining guests… It’s normal to feel this way.

Here are some quick tips for reducing holiday stress:

🧘 Take breaks: Replenish your social battery by taking time for yourself in between entertaining. Meditate, do breathing exercises, anything that makes you feel centered.

🏃‍♀️ Plan for movement: While it’s great to relax a bit from your wellness regimen, moving your body in some way every day will help you de-stress, even if it’s a light morning walk. Or if you're feeling up for something more energetic, how about a local turkey trot?

🙅‍♀️ Honor your limits: It’s OK to skip the cooking this year, spend less, or share the tasks. The holidays are meant to be a relaxing time — be careful not to overwork yourself.

Happy Fall! 🍁 Did you know massage helps with seasonal transitions?

Not only can it elevate your mood and energy as we lose some sunshine, but it can also support your immune system.

Our physical activities also tend to change with the seasons (especially in rainy Portland!), and massage can keep your body feeling safe, flexible and functional as you switch up your routine.

Autumn is the ultimate time for self-care, so be sure to give your body what it needs to feel its best!

I'm not the right massage therapist or running coach for everyone.
..but maybe I'm right for you?

I'm focused and goal-driven, but above all, I care deeply.

My approach is rooted in science, but I understand there's more. I ask questions, listen, and adjust.

What’s the difference between 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 and 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲?

🏃 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 is a great option for athletes who want to target a specific area, injury, or pain point, or need muscle health maintenance for a sport or physical activity.

These sessions focus on more dynamic massage. You may be more actively involved in the session by participating in stretches, providing feedback on trigger points, and moving a little more.

💆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 is a go-to for those who enjoy slower myofascial work and connective tissue stretching, or would like to let go and feel pampered.

These sessions leave out any active techniques that require your participation, so you can lay back and relax. These treatments can be full-body or key areas only.

You don’t have to be hurt in order to care for your body, and I love helping clients realize that. Oftentimes, massage is just the remedy to bring your back into your body, ease stress, and clear your mind. Proactive healing is not a luxury, it’s a necessity, especially in the fast-paced world we live in.

Performing small actions like this a few times a day helps you better connect with your body.

Our bodies talk to us all the time. Sometimes, when we get injured, it’s because we were not listening to the signs that our bodies needed rest.

When you integrate recovery into your athletic training, you’re giving your body the best chance to heal so you can continue the sports you love.

Injury is not an inevitable part of an athlete’s life!

Aches and pains happen, and occasionally training too hard can catch up with the best of us. But you can reduce the likelihood of an injury and speed up recovery time when you make rest a part of your regimen. Some of my favorite ways to recover are light stretching or yoga, foam rolling, and — most importantly — massage. Nothing reduces stress, eases soreness and improves circulation quite like it.

It’s time to stop thinking of massage as a sporadic, luxurious treat and more like a necessary part of healing and recovery. 'Like' if you're with me on this! 😄
