Great patient experiences are built by a team. That's why our nursing department is kicking off a new award to honor their non-nursing colleagues throughout the organization: the TULIP Award! TULIP stands for Thoughtful, Unforgettable, and Lasting Impression on Patients.

This week, nurses presented the inaugural TULIP Award to Francis Payne, Unit Coordinator in Psychiatry, for going above and beyond to support patients with kindness, dignity, and compassion.

Congratulations, Francis, on being Stamford Health's first TULIP Award recipient, and thank you for making such a positive and lasting impact on those we serve.

A little throwback while we count down to this year’s Health Wellness & Lifestyle Expo!

Last year’s expo brought together helpful resources, friendly faces, and experts from across Stamford Health, creating opportunities to learn more about health, wellness, and the many ways we support our community. Looking back at these moments has us even more excited for this year. We can’t wait to do it all again. See you on September 12th at Harbor Point Boardwalk!

A NICU stay can be one of the most overwhelming experiences a family will ever face. That's why Stamford Health has partnered with The Tiny Miracles Foundation for 21 years, an organization dedicated to supporting families of premature babies through every stage of their journey.

One of the first people Stamford Health's NICU families meet is Tiny Miracles parent support mentor, Sandra Platt. With more than 20 years of social work experience and firsthand experience as a NICU parent herself, Sandra helps families navigate uncertainty, connect with support services and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.

"The work I do is incredibly meaningful. It is a gift and a privilege to be invited into some of the darkest moments in a family's life."

Together, Stamford Health and Tiny Miracles are helping ensure that every NICU family has access to the support, guidance and community they deserve.

We were honored to welcome Senator Chris Murphy to Stamford Hospital last week for a tour of our new Bennett Child & Adolescent EmPATH Unit.

A passionate advocate for behavioral health, Sen. Murphy learned more about how this innovative space will provide compassionate, recovery-oriented care for children and teens experiencing a mental health crisis.

In 2021, the senator visited Stamford Hospital’s Covid-19 vaccine clinic. We were proud to share how we've continued to grow and advance care to meet the evolving needs of our community. Thank you to Sen. Murphy and his team for their continued support of mental health care and the patients and families we serve.

When we came across a Reddit post from an expectant mom searching for the perfect Italian hero to enjoy after giving birth at Stamford Hospital, we turned to the true local experts: our team. The verdict is in – watch to see where Stamford Health employees send their postpartum sandwich orders. Do you agree with these recs?

Slime in the hospital? Yep, you read that right.

When 14-year-old Elissa set out to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, she decided to support children in our community in a uniquely creative way: by bringing slime to Stamford Hospital. With help from her local Girl Scouts, Elissa made 50 slime kits and donated them to Stamford Hospital's Pediatric Unit. Young patients can take a kit home when they're discharged, adding a little fun to their recovery journey.

We're grateful for Elissa's leadership, creativity, and generosity, and for helping make the journey home a little brighter (and a little slimier!) for our young patients.

At 16, Cole Waverek had already spent years searching for answers.

After countless appointments, conflicting diagnoses, and trips across the country, he continued to struggle with debilitating abdominal pain that left him unable to attend high school and participate in daily life.

In July 2017, Cole came to Stamford Health and underwent surgery for median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) with Dr. Hsu, finally getting an answer after a long journey.

"Dr. Hsu is our hero," shared Cole's mother. "His expertise gave our son his life back."

Now 25, Cole is pain-free and doing things that once felt impossible. He works, has traveled to Japan, and is currently studying Japanese with plans to attend language school there in the coming year.

For Cole and his family, finding the right diagnosis and the right care team made all the difference. We're honored to have been a part of his journey and to celebrate all that he's accomplished since.

Last week was rainy, but the forecast at Stamford Health called for ice cream! Our leaders spent the afternoon scooping smiles and serving up treats for employees across the organization. Just a sweet way to say thank you for everything our teams do each day!

A little trip down memory lane...

We recently spotted a post from Stamford CT The Way It Used To Be featuring a Stamford Hospital baby blanket from the 1990s, and we couldn't resist digging through the archives.

From decades past to today, these tiny blankets have wrapped generations of Stamford Hospital babies in their very first moments. Seeing these keepsakes still tucked away for safe keeping reminds us how special those memories are.

Do you still have your Stamford Hospital baby blanket? We'd love to see it! Share your photos and stories in the comments.
