John J. Hickey, III

John J. Hickey III, 70, of Marina del Rey, California, and a native son of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 13, 2026. Born on December 31, 1955, John was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend whose warmth, humor, and generous spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew him.Born and raised in Stamford, John carried the strength, loyalty, and easy charm of his hometown with him throughout his life. He was the fourth of seven brothers and one sister, a proud namesake of his father, John J. Hickey Jr., and a man who seemed to inherit many of his father's finest qualities: a striking presence, a welcoming smile, and a rare gift for making every person feel at ease with a handshake, a kiss, or a warm embrace.John shared a beautiful marriage of 44 years with his beloved wife, Cathy (Giglio) Hickey. Together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. One of their great joys was dancing together, from ballroom to disco to tango. That love of dance began early for John, who became a national ballroom champion at the age of eight.Athletic, spirited, and deeply competitive, John excelled in sports from an early age, especially baseball, basketball, and football. He treasured the memories of his younger years and the lifelong friendships forged during them, particularly with the close-knit group of friends affectionately known as the "Gypsies." Those bonds, formed in youth, remained strong and meaningful throughout his life. He was also a loyal, long-suffering fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Knicks, and those who loved him cannot help but smile at the thought that he may finally have the best seat in the house for a championship run. An avid golfer, John continued to relish the time he spent on the course, especially in retirement. He cherished his formative years on Connecticut Avenue in Stamford and his time at St. John's Parochial School, where many of the memories and friendships that shaped him first began. He later graduated from Rippowam High School, Class of 1973, and went on to attend Central Connecticut State College. Stamford was always part of who John was, no matter where life carried him.Following in his father's footsteps, John worked at Richard's of Greenwich for more than 40 years, where his natural charisma and gift for connecting with people made him an exceptional salesman. Like his father, he had a way of brightening a room-he was always smiling, always engaging, and always a pleasure to be around.Of all the roles John held in life, the ones he treasured most were husband, father, and grandfather. He especially loved coaching his sons in their younger years and took immense pride in watching them grow into the men they are today. In recent years, his greatest joy was being "Pop" to his four beloved grandchildren, Charlotte, Ace, Leo, and Ava, a role he embraced with endless affection and pride.John was predeceased by his parents, John J. Hickey Jr. and Frances (Arcano) Hickey; his father-in-law, John Giglio; and his sister-in-law, Anne Romano. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy (Giglio) Hickey; his sons, Jason (Vili) Hickey and Garrett (Laura) Hickey; his siblings, Donald Hickey, Paul (Barbara) Hickey, Joyce Sorrell, Peter Hickey, David (Phyllis) Hickey, Joseph (Robert) Hickey, and Thomas (Karen) Hickey; his mother-in-law, Carole Giglio; his brother-in-law, Thomas Giglio; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.Family and friends may visit at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrle Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 8:00am till 10:00am. A Funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15am and proceed to St. Cecilia's R.C. Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society in John's name.

Michael Joseph Sierpina

It is with broken hearts that we announce that Michael Joseph Sierpina, the heart and soul of our family, our protector, left us peacefully on May 27, 2026. His loving family and friends were by his side. Following a courageous and brief battle with ALS, Mike passed away shortly after his diagnosis. Although this disease took so much away from him, it did not take away his determination, love and dedication to his family and friends.

Mike, a lifelong Stamford resident, was born on July 13,1952 to the late Theodore M. and Louisa Del Vecchio Sierpina, Sr. In 1974, Mike married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Melanie Mancini Sierpina. Mike and Mel shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, during which they raised the other great loves of his life: their daughters Krissy and Kate. Together, they enjoyed spending every holiday together, years of concerts (especially the Irish Band & Billy Joel), the beach with his crew, summer vacations and mini-trips, pumpkin picking, cutting down Christmas trees, dinners at Zody’s and just being together.

Mike attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from Stamford Catholic High School. Mike is also an honorary member of the Providence College Classes of 2002 and 2005, from where his daughters and sons-in-law graduated. Mike’s first job was working with his dad at Schaefer’s Moving and Storage. He started his career in building maintenance at Peerless Maintenance before starting his own business, KLS Building Services. Mike spent the last 20 years working for ServPro.

Mike, also known as Mick, Fiver, Big Mike and Mr. Peen, truly loved life and found joy in many things, including storytelling, his mini-van Big Red, wearing shorts in the winter, packing coolers, sitting outside listening to music while having a drink with Kris and Billy, Gatorade and any and all traditions, especially carving the Thanksgiving turkey. Mostly, Mike loved hearing his favorite nickname, Papa, and anything and everything involving his 5 grandchildren who adore him.

Mike loved all things sports. His life in sports was playing touch football and years of city and travel softball, for teams such as Peerless Maintenance, Dry Dock Cafe, The Clique and Holly Press. His time playing softball was the most memorable and “adventerous”, as he told MANY stories from his time on the field. Some of his favorites were playing softball games on donkeys, softball tournaments in Delaware and the Cape and spending “quiet” nights in hotels. Mike spent many years coaching his daughters Babe Ruth Softball Teams, where he not only taught the sport but taught his teams how to enjoy the game. He also enjoyed being on the golf course (not so much the golf), watching the New York Yankees and New York Giants.

Mike was the epitome of a son, husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and co-worker. Not a bad bone in his body, saw the good in everyone, the life of the party. Mike loved to have fun but more than that loved seeing others have fun. Mike was the guy you were happy to have as part of your life, and he was just as happy to have you. Always up for a “cumbumberance” , whether you were spending time with Mike playing musical chairs, dancing on the ceiling or just running into him at the GAC, we hope you all hold a special memory of him close to your hearts. To know Mike, was to love Mike.

Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his devoted wife and best friend Melanie Sierpina, his biggest fans and loving children, Kristyn & Kris O’Brien and Kate & Billy Barford, and his adoring grandchildren Mikey, Maggie, Molly, William and Grayson. He is also survived by his brother Ted Sierpina, his wife Diane and their children Shannon, Nicole & Tom and Amy & Thomas. Also surviving are Mike’s sister LuAnn Sierpina, his sister-in law and her husband, Kathi & Jack Joyce, his brother-in-law and his wife, Thomas & Lisa Mancini and his cousins, Bob & Jean Del Vecchio. He will also be missed by The Vakos Family and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Christoher & Meg, Scotty & Katie, Sara & Doug, Christopher & Ellen and all of their children.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Rose Terranova Mancini, Sr and his brother-in-law, Joseph Mancini, Jr.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our family and friends who showed an incredible amount of love and support to Mike and our family during his brief illness. Also special thanks Dominic Roca, MD, Jen Werely, MD, Neil Shneider, MD, Respiratory Therapist, Christine and the compassionate and helpful staff at Stamford Hospital ICU, especially Ashleigh and Shawn.

A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory,

104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 10:30 am, and proceed to St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be

celebrated at 11:00 am. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM (Mike would love it if you dressed casually for the wake. As you know he loved his shorts, t-shirts and flip flops).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike’s memory to The Anthony Rizzo Foundation (https://arizzofoundation.org/).

Christos Seitaridis

Christos Seitaridis, 88, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. He was born in what is now the country of Georgia, on April 12, 1938, to the late Konstantinos and Ermofili Seitaridis.

As an infant, Christos and his family relocated from Georgia to Greece, eventually settling in the small village of Nea Trapezounta near Katerini. He was the youngest of nine children. From a young age, Christos worked hard to help support his family and later became a truck mechanic.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Maria, and soon after, in 1965, they boarded a ship and immigrated to the United States, where they lived and worked in factories in Jamaica, Queens. In 1968, his employer, Baldwin-Gegenheimer, relocated to Stamford, Connecticut. Christos and Maria both moved with the company and in that same year they had their first and only child Harry.

Soon after, Christos partnered with his lifelong friend and fellow Greek native, Bill Athansiadis, to operate a Mobil gas station on the corner of Elm and Jefferson Streets in Stamford. Through years of hard work and dedication, they built a successful business and eventually purchased the property. Together, they operated the station for more than 20 years.

Christos and Maria later opened Mary's Furs on Bedford Street. During that time, Christos envisioned transforming the Mobil station into a donut shop. With Bill's support, they helped their sons, Harry and Peter, open the first Donut Delight location on the corner of Elm and Jefferson Streets. Christos and Maria eventually sold Mary's Furs and enjoyed spending many happy summers in Greece.

Christos was known by everyone as a generous and kind-hearted man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was one of the founders of the Stamford Hellenic Society Center and was deeply devoted to his Greek heritage. He took pride of his Greek culture and found joy in sharing its traditions, values, and spirit with others. Soccer was another lifelong passion. Christos dedicated countless hours to organizing and supporting both adult and youth teams, helping bring people together through the game he loved. Whether on the sidelines, at practice, watching on TV or in the stands, he rarely missed a match. Through both his commitment to the Greek community and his love of soccer, Christos built lasting friendships and touched the lives of countless people throughout the years.

Above all else, his greatest passion was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria; his son, Harry; his daughter-in-law, Dori; and his cherished grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas, who were the absolute pride and joy of his life. He adored them beyond measure and treasured every moment spent with them. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Christos was predeceased by his eight siblings.

Family and friends may call at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Christos’ memory to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Seitaridis family with the arrangements.

Philip Joseph Uva, Sr.

Philip Joseph Uva, Sr., a longtime resident of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 81 years old.

Born and raised in Stamford, CT, Phil later moved to Norwalk, where he proudly resided for the past 35 years. A dedicated family man, he shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved spouse, Claudia Jane (Glass) Uva. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.

A proud member of the Teamsters Union 191, Phil spent over six decades on the road in a distinguished truck driving career. He began his journey working for Roadway Express out of Stamford for 25 years, later moving on to Marshalls Express for 15 years, and lastly dedicating over 20 years to B & S Carting. Known for his work ethic and reliability, Phil was a respected figure among his peers.

Beyond his career, Phil’s true passion lay in sports, most notably baseball and golf. In his youth, he was a renowned and formidable baseball player, lighting up the diamond in the Stamford National Little League during the late 1950s, followed by standout years in the Stamford Babe Ruth and Stamford Senior Babe Ruth leagues in the early 1960s. His love for the game didn't end when his playing days did; Phil went on to share his knowledge and passion with the next generation, serving as a dedicated, longtime coach in the Springdale Little League, Stamford National Babe Ruth, and Stamford Senior Babe Ruth for over 20 years.

As time went on, his competitive spirit shifted to the golf course. Phil was a longtime, legendary member of the Italian Center Men’s Golf Club League. His name became synonymous with the league's championship leaderboards, first winning a title in 1993 with partner Leroy Mallozzi, and later dominating the course alongside partner Alex Lionetti to capture multiple championships in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. Over his lifetime of golfing, Phil achieved a feat many golfers only dream of—recording three holes-in-one.

Phil’s greatest legacy, however, remains his family. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Josephine (D'Amico) Uva and John Uva.

In addition to his wife Claudia, he is survived by his devoted children, Philip Joseph Uva, Jr. (PJ) and his spouse Lia (Manesiotis) Uva of Norwalk, CT, and David John Uva and his spouse Nancy (Loiaconi) Uva of Oxford, CT. He was the immensely proud grandfather to Philip Joseph Uva, III, Evangelos Michael Uva, Claudia Sophia Uva, Paige Ashley Uva, Tyler David Uva, and Ryan Anthony Uva. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, Barbara (Uva) Salamon of Wilmington, NC, Donald Uva ahd his wife Phyllis of Norwalk, CT, Jo-an Uva of Stamford, CT, and John Uva of New Rochelle, NY, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends who will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at St. Jerome RC Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Phil’s memory to St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT 06851 or the Whittingham Cancer Center, c/o Norwalk Hospital, 34 Maple Street, Norwalk, CT 06856.
