Parkinson’s becomes more common as people age, which makes it an especially important topic for older adults, their families, and the professionals supporting them at home. April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to a condition that impacts much more than movement. It can also affect speech, sleep, mood, swallowing, digestion, and overall independence.
In the early stages, someone with Parkinson’s may only need small supports like reminders or help getting to appointments. As the condition progresses, they may require more hands-on assistance with mobility, meals, dressing, bathing, and managing medications.
Caring for someone with Parkinson’s goes beyond physical tasks. Emotional support, patience, consistency, and a reliable care team all play a key role in maintaining quality of life.
