One of the world's most respected medical journals recently published a comprehensive review on low back pain.

Considering that low back pain affects more than 600 million people worldwide and is the leading cause of disability, I was curious to see what their recommendations would be.

For most people with nonspecific low back pain, the review recommends starting with conservative treatments such as:

• Chiropractic spinal manipulation
• Exercise
• Staying active
• Heat
• Acupuncture
• Massage

As I read through the paper, I couldn't help but smile.

Those are the same tools we use here at ChiroLife.

One thing I especially appreciated was that the review doesn't recommend the same treatment for everyone. Instead, it emphasizes choosing the right treatment based on the individual patient.

That's exactly how I try to practice.

Sometimes an adjustment is enough.

Sometimes adding acupuncture makes all the difference.

Sometimes massage helps the muscles relax so the adjustment holds better.

Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from teaching the right exercises or helping someone understand how to safely keep moving.

Every patient walks through my door with a different story. My goal isn't to fit everyone into the same treatment plan. It's to figure out what's going on and use the combination of treatments that gives that person the best chance of improving.

I love seeing research like this because it reinforces something I've believed for a long time: conservative care is often the best place to start.

If you've been dealing with back pain and aren't sure what your next step should be, I'd be happy to help you understand your options.

Can a chiropractor adjust a chicken?
What about a horse?
Believe it or not...
Yes!
In fact, did you know Tooele Valley has its own animal chiropractor?
Most people know chiropractors work with people, but many are surprised to learn that animals can benefit from chiropractic care too.
I've had the opportunity to care for:
🐴 Horses
🐶 Dogs
🐱 Cats
🐔 Chickens
🐰 Rabbits..and even a few other species along the way.
Just like us, animals can develop stiff joints and movement restrictions from aging, injuries, athletic activity, or everyday life. Helping restore normal motion can improve comfort, mobility, and overall function.
One of my favorite parts of animal chiropractic is watching owners notice the little things.
"My dog is jumping into the truck again."
"My horse is moving more freely."
"My old cat is acting years younger."
Those moments are why I love what I do.
So yes...
A chiropractor really can adjust a chicken.
And if your horse, dog, cat, or other animal isn't moving like they used to, I'd be happy to answer your questions.

Let's bust one of the biggest myths about health.

Have you ever noticed...
You don't usually get sick during finals.
You get sick after.
After football season.
After the big project at work.
After the wedding.
After you've finally crossed the finish line.
We all know it happens.
But have you ever stopped to ask...

Why?

I think it points to one of the greatest human superpowers.
Our ability to adapt.

Think about it.
When life gets hard, your body doesn't usually quit.
It rises to the challenge.
Your brain sharpens.
Your focus increases.
You somehow find enough energy to finish the semester, train for the race, build the business, raise the kids, or survive another week.

Then...

The challenge is over.
Your body finally says,
"Okay... now I can rest."
Sometimes that's exactly when the cold shows up.

What if we've been looking at stress all wrong?
Maybe stress isn't just something to survive.
Maybe it's one of the ways your body becomes stronger.
Every healthy part of your body grows because it's challenged.
Muscles.
Bones.
Your brain.
Even your character.
Stress isn't the superpower.

Adaptation is.

And the more we challenge ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually...
The better we become at it.

Maybe we shouldn't spend our lives trying to eliminate every challenge.
Maybe we should spend our lives becoming the kind of people who can rise to meet them.

One of my favorite parts of this job is seeing people get back to doing the things they love.
Over the years I've helped people with:
• Headaches and migraines
• Neck pain
• Low back pain
• Upper back and rib pain
• TMJ
• Carpal tunnel symptoms
• Plantar fasciitis
• Vertigo
One patient worked for the University of Utah doing HVAC work. His job had him walking through rafters high above the ground. He started dealing with vertigo along with some mild headaches. That's not something you want when you're working several stories up.
We treated him with chiropractic care, and after about two months his vertigo was gone. He was back to doing his job without worrying about losing his balance.
Another patient came to me with severe migraines several times a week. They had gotten so bad that some days she couldn't leave the house, and sometimes she couldn't even get out of bed.
We combined chiropractic care with acupuncture over the next few months. Her migraines became much less frequent and much less intense. The best part wasn't that her headaches improved. It was seeing her get back to living her life again.
Those are the moments that remind me why I love what I do.
If you've been dealing with something that's keeping you from living the life you want, let's have a conversation. I'd love to see if I can help.

The nearest acupuncture clinic isn't in Salt Lake anymore.

It's right here in the Tooele Valley.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help with pain, headaches, stress, sleep, and overall wellness.
Most people who try it are surprised by how relaxing it feels.

Dr. Martin’s Top 5 Ways to Boost Your Nutrition Naturally

Most people overcomplicate nutrition.
Your body usually responds best to simple, consistent habits done over time.

Here are the top nutrition changes I recommend most often to patients looking for better energy, less inflammation, improved digestion, and long term health.

1️⃣ Eat More Real Food
The closer food is to its natural form, the better your body usually responds to it.

2️⃣ Build Meals Around Plants
Vegetables, fruits, roots, nuts, and seeds should make up most of what you eat.

3️⃣ Cut Back on Highly Processed Foods
Many processed foods increase cravings, energy crashes, inflammation, and digestive stress.

4️⃣ Prioritize Protein and Healthy Fats
Protein and natural fats help support healing, muscles, hormones, energy, and recovery.

5️⃣ Keep It Simple and Sustainable
Healthy eating should feel realistic and repeatable, not stressful or extreme.

You do not need a fad diet.
You need habits your body can actually thrive on.
