It’s flu season, and knowing what to expect can make all the difference. Swipe for a quick guide on flu symptoms, home remedies and when to seek help.

The flu can start suddenly, with fever, aches and fatigue. Most feel better within a week, but don’t worry if a cough sticks around a bit longer.

At-home care? Think rest, hydration and over-the-counter helpers like acetaminophen for fever. And remember, prevention is powerful — wash those hands and get your flu vaccine.

Infection preventionists play a vital role in reducing the spread of infections in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare environments. Here’s what you can do at home to help keep yourself and others safe and healthy:
- Get vaccinated.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow.
- Clean areas of the home you frequently touch, like doorknobs and countertops.
- Stay home when sick.
- Wash your hands.

On Friday, Oct. 16, our incredible teams at Mount Nittany Health joined forces for a Pink Out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. By dressing in pink, we stood in solidarity with those impacted by breast cancer. 🩷

Special thanks to the Breast Care Center for their “Mammograms and Muffins” event. Patients received a sweet treat along with their important screenings, making the experience a little brighter.

On Oct. 26, the North Parking Lot at Mount Nittany Medical Center will be closed for one to two days as we replace the temporary surface with solid, permanent asphalt.

This project wraps up work on the North Parking Lot, officially opening it up to patients for use without further closures. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Mount Nittany Health Oncology is proud to collaborate with Wellness in Motion Studio on an exercise pilot designed to provide an additional supportive resource for people throughout the cancer journey, including individuals undergoing active cancer treatment, cancer survivors and caregivers.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to exploring how appropriate movement and exercise can support well-being during and after cancer treatment while helping participants feel connected to a community.

We’re grateful to Wellness in Motion for generously donating use of its studio space, and to the Mount Nittany Health Foundation for supporting the cost of the instructor and helping make this program possible.

We had an incredible time at Penn State’s Ag Progress Days in August! Our team at Mount Nittany Health was thrilled to connect with so many in the community and share important health and safety tips.

Our Trauma and Stroke team members were on site, helping everyone learn more about trauma prevention, stroke recognition and the resources available at Mount Nittany Health. A big shoutout to these amazing teams for their dedication in spreading awareness!

At just 32 years old, Georgia Peeler noticed a subtle dimple on the underside of her breast. Like many, she brushed it off as nothing. But eventually, she decided to listen to her body and consult a doctor. That small decision led to an early breast cancer diagnosis.

Mount Nittany Health was proud to sponsor the 20th annual Herbie’s Home Town Loop, held Saturday, Aug. 8, in Bellefonte. Among those who participated in this meaningful community tradition were some familiar faces from Mount Nittany Health: Joy Mattern, PA-C, Mount Nittany Health Primary Care – Park Ave.; Tara Shapich, PA-C, Mount Nittany Health Primary Care – Bellefonte; and Karen Cherinka, CRNP, Mount Nittany Health Medical Weight Management.

Herbie’s Home Town Loop is a four-mile run/walk held in memory of Jeremy Herbstritt, a 1998 Bellefonte Area High School graduate who loved life and the outdoors. Jeremy was one of 32 people who lost their lives in the April 16, 2007, tragedy at Virginia Tech.

Following his death, Jeremy’s family and friends created Herbie’s Home Town Loop as a way to honor his life and give back to the community that offered them so much support during their time of grief. Since then, the event has grown into a special Bellefonte tradition that brings people together in remembrance, community and support for others.

Mount Nittany Health is honored to support events like Herbie’s Home Town Loop that strengthen the communities we serve.
