UNVEILING OF THE FIRST GLOBAL IRISH FAMINE MEMORIAL IN THE UNITED STATES
SEPT. 20, 2026 at 2PM
On Sunday, Sept. 20, a ceremony will be held in Staten Island to dedicate two monuments honoring Irish Famine immigrants who died after arriving in New York over 150 years ago. The installation features a traditional cemetery obelisk designed by Robert Flood, of Staten Island Monuments, Inc., and a pair of bronze shoes representing the Global Irish Famine Way initiative.
Staten Island Monuments, Inc. is proud to be a part of this historic event, which is so important to anyone with Irish heritage or an interest in New York history.
Years of research and advocacy, spearheaded by the Friends of Abandoned Cemeteries of Staten Island (FACSI), under the leadership of its CEO, Lynn Rogers, will culminate with the ceremony and dedication, which will begin at 2 p.m. at the Marine Hospital Quarantine Cemetery, 26 Central Ave (corner of Hyatt Street), St. George, Staten Island, NY 10301.
