🌸 Today’s Women’s Health Tip: Don’t Ignore Changes in Your Period

Your period can change throughout your life, but new or unusual changes are worth paying attention to.

Talk with your healthcare provider if you notice:

* 🩸 Periods suddenly becoming much heavier
* ⏰ Bleeding that lasts longer than 7 days
* 🔄 Bleeding between periods
* ❤️‍🔥 Significant new cramping or pelvic pain
* 🩸 Bleeding after s*x
* 📅 Periods becoming very irregular when they were previously predictable
* 🚨 Bleeding after menopause

Changes can happen for many reasons, including hormonal fluctuations, fibroids, polyps, medications, thyroid issues, perimenopause, and more. You know what’s normal for your body — if something changes, don’t be afraid to ask about it.

💗 Your period is part of your health history. Keep track of it, and don’t ignore changes.

If you’re experiencing unusual bleeding or pain, schedule an appointment today!

Staff Sgt. Chester J. McBride Jr. was born and raised in Statesboro, Georgia, where he became a standout defensive back at Statesboro High School, helping lead the team to a state championship in 2001 and graduating in 2003. He went on to play football at Savannah State University. His uncle, Kenneth McBride, remembered that whenever Chester came home on leave, the two would head to the gym together to lift weights, recalling his nephew as strong, positive, and someone who genuinely loved the military and the mission he was part of.

McBride enlisted in the Air Force in 2008, beginning his career as a security forces member at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, before going on to become a special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, assigned to Detachment 405 at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. His commander there, Special Agent Helen Stewart, recalled how excited he'd been for his deployment to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in October 2015, constantly sharing photos and updates from the field with his stateside "deployed family," a testament to how deeply he believed in the work.

On December 21, 2015, McBride was part of a joint U.S.-Afghan foot patrol near Bagram Air Base when a Taliban bomber rammed a motorcycle loaded with explosives into the patrol and detonated it. In his final moments, McBride shielded the team's linguist with his own body, an act that ultimately saved her life. He was KIA in the blast, along with five fellow American service members: Maj. Adrianna M. Vorderbruggen, Staff Sgt. Michael A. Cinco, Staff Sgt. Peter W. Taub, Tech. Sgt. Joseph G. Lemm, and Staff Sgt. Louis M. Bonacasa in what was, at the time, the deadliest day for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since May 2013. He was 30 years old.

His body was returned home in a dignified transfer attended by Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford. One year later, in December 2016, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations renamed an auditorium at the 42nd Air Base Wing headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama, in his honor, marking the anniversary of his death.

Staff Sgt. Chester J. McBride Jr. used his final moments not to save himself, but to shield the linguist beside him from a blast he could not escape the same protective instinct that had defined him his entire life. Most people have never heard his name. We remember him. 🕊️ 🇺🇸
